After listening to Frank Gaffney‘s comments on Obama’s seeming push to cater to Muslim sensibilities and our POTUS’ differing approaches to handling the Iranian riots (where the rioters were asking for true freedom from the strictures of radical Islam) and the almost immediate insistence of the call on Mubarak to leave immediately (which could destabilize Egypt and deliver it into the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood), see this on Drudge today was more than a little unnerving . . . Mandatory Arabic Classes Coming To Some Texas Schools; ‘Language Of The Future’…

Some Students at Mansfield ISD schools could soon be learning Arabic as a required language. The school district wants students at select schools to take Arabic language and culture classes as part of a federally funded grant.

The Foreign Language Assistance Program (FLAP) grant was awarded to Mansfield ISD last summer by the U.S. Department of Education.

As part of the five-year $1.3 million grant, Arabic classes would be mandatory at Cross Timbers Intermediate School and Kenneth Davis Elementary School. The program would also be optional for students at T. A. Howard Middle School and Summit High School.

Parents at Cross Timbers say they were caught off-guard by the program, and were surprised the district only told them about it in a meeting Monday night between parents and Mansfield ISD Superintendent Bob Morrison.

Geert Wilders, Netherlands filmmaker, parliamentarian and promoter of Western Civilization, has recently been denied entry into no-longer-so-Great Briton. Why? Because his continued stand against Islam’s intrusion into and attempts to supplant Western European culture is not being well tolerated by the OIC, (Organization of the Islamic Conference.) Also, because his own government is criminally prosecuting him for his pro-Western activities. Bat Yeor, author of Islam and Dhimmitude: Where Civilizations Collide and Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis explains:

The OIC’s aim is to punish and suppress any alleged Islamophobia, around the world but particularly in Europe, and it has been a leader in creating the conditions that made the U.K.’s Wilders ban possible.

The OIC is one of the largest intergovernmental organizations in the world. It encompasses 56 Muslim states plus the Palestinian Authority. Spread over four continents, it claims to speak in the name of the ummah (the universal Muslim community), which numbers about 1.3 billion. The OIC’s mission is to unite all Muslims worldwide by rooting them in the Koran and the Sunnah — the core of traditional Islamic civilization and values. It aims at strengthening solidarity and cooperation among all its members, in order to protect the interests of Muslims everywhere and to galvanize the ummah into a unified body.

The OIC is a unique organization — one that has no equivalent in the world. It unites the religious, economic, military, and political strength of 56 states. By contrast, the European Union represents half as many states and is a secular body only, and the Vatican — which speaks for the world’s 1.1 billion Catholics — is devoid of any political power. Many Muslims in the West resist the OIC’s tutelage and oppose its efforts to supplant Western law with sharia. But the OIC’s resources are formidable.

Yeor goes on to state that, “In its efforts to defend the “true image” of Islam and combat its defamation, the organization has requested the UN and the Western countries to punish “Islamophobia” and blasphemy.” Also, that “[Wilder's] crime is maintaining that Europe’s civilization is rooted in the values of Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, and the Enlightenment — and not in Mecca, Baghdad, Andalusia, and al-Kods.”

Wilders is the receiver of death threats — no surprise there — and now even his own government is siding with the Islamic hoard against him. His denial into Briton is another signal that our common-language ally is not very healthy, either.

There aren’t many Geert Wilders left in Europe. Wonder how many are left over here?

Got a tax-payer funded Muslim religious school in your state or district? Evidently they do in Minnesota! From StarTribune.com columnist Katherine Kerston:

Recently, I wrote about Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy (TIZA), a K-8 charter school in Inver Grove Heights. Charter schools are public schools and by law must not endorse or promote religion.

Evidence suggests, however, that TIZA is an Islamic school, funded by Minnesota taxpayers.

TIZA has many characteristics that suggest a religious school. It shares the headquarters building of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, whose mission is “establishing Islam in Minnesota.” The building also houses a mosque. TIZA’s executive director, Asad Zaman, is a Muslim imam, or religious leader, and its sponsor is an organization called Islamic Relief.

Students pray daily, the cafeteria serves halal food – permissible under Islamic law — and “Islamic Studies” is offered at the end of the school day.

TIZA’s operation as a public, taxpayer-funded school is troubling on several fronts. TIZA is skirting the law by operating what is essentially an Islamic school at taxpayer expense. The Department of Education has failed to provide the oversight necessary to catch these illegalities, and appears to lack the tools to do so. In addition, there’s a double standard at work here — if TIZA were a Christian school, it would likely be gone in a heartbeat.

TIZA is now being held up as a national model for a new kind of charter school. If it passes legal muster, Minnesota taxpayers may soon find themselves footing the bill for a separate system of education for Muslims.

Dhimmi alert! Dhimmi alert!

Sure sounds like public funded religious education to this ol’ Okie. If the Southern Baptists tried something like this they’d probably send out the FBI and the National Guard to shut ‘em down lickety split!

Mercy, we’ve got this lunatic on our own soil and can’t do anything about it. Like what you ask? Well, maybe arrest and life imprisonment for supplying weapons and advisers to those killing our service personnel in Iraq, permanent ban from entering the country, maybe a little visit from Bob the Nailer — I know, I know, leader of a sovereign country an all, can’t violate the UN charter, immoral act — sometimes, the real world’s a lot less Tom Clancy than one would like. Today’s certainly one of those times. Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, Holocaust denier with the goal of Israel’s total destruction writ large in his day-planner, is making his third visit to the UN to spew forth his hate and propaganda on a world stage tomorrow. Today, he’ll be the invited guest at Columbia University — showing that the ivy has grown so thick in that league that those in charge can’t see past the inside of the leaves . . . the disgrace of giving this avowed enemy of Western Civilization a collegiate microphone is nowhere to be found. . . .

OK, the Columbia speech is over — I didn’t get to hear the whole thing, but snippets here and there. At least Columbia president Lee Bollinger, didn’t roll over like a lap puppy during his introduction:

“Mr. President, you exhibit all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator,” Bollinger said, to loud applause.

He said Ahmadinejad’s denial of the Holocaust might fool the illiterate and ignorant.

“When you come to a place like this it makes you simply ridiculous,” Bollinger said. “The truth is that the Holocaust is the most documented event in human history.”

The audience actually greeted the tin-horn with a level of applause that should shame us all. Of course, ol’ Mahmoud didn’t disappoint with his intense level of dishonesty and subterfuge:

“People in Iran are very joyous, happy people,” he told a National Press Club audience that questioned him about the arrests of students, journalists and women. “They’re very free in expressing what they think.”

He said women in Iran were “the freest women in the world … They’re active in every level of society.”

Right! And, there’s this bridge in Brooklyn that he’d like to interest you in. . . . In the Q&A session afterwards, ol’ Mahmoud actually stated that there were no homosexuals in Iran. (The audience broke out in derisive laughter at that statement!) He said that this was a phenomena that only happens in the US and the West. (If true, no doubt because they’ve slaughtered them all under Sharia!) He also said that there were many Jews living in Iran in peace, (That would be news to the large LA population of Persian Jews that fled the persecution of the Ayatollahs!)

Protesters at the event freely spoke their minds — not many were pleased that one of the West’s main enemies had been given a free forum. In this [ol' Mahmoud's] case, free speech is worth much, much less than what it costs.

So, what about the poor schmucks in Los Angeles that get their news and opinions from our local kitty-box-liner, how did they set up this event in today’s edition? How did they portray our mousy-lookin’ little friend up there on the left, basking in the Photoshopped glow of his greatest desires? About like you’d expect — only even more so. They’ve changed the headline in the online version to Ahmadinejad hailed in Middle East, but in the dead-tree edition page-one just above the fold it reads, Arabs see a hero in Iran leader, and it gets a bit gushier after that.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, a flinty populist in a zip-up jacket whose scathing rhetoric and defiance of Washington are often caricatured in the Western media, has transcended national and religious divides to become a folk hero across the Middle East.

The diminutive, at times inscrutable, president is a wellspring of stinging sound-bites and swagger for Muslims who complain that their leaders are too beholden to or frightened of the Bush administration. Ahmadinejad, who arrived in New York Sunday ahead of a U.N. General Assembly meeting, is an easily marketable commodity:a streetwise politician with nuclear ambitions and an open microphone.

“I like him a lot,” said Mahmoud Ali, a medical student in Cairo. “He’s trying to protect himself and his nation from the dangers around him. He makes me feel proud. He’s a symbol of Islam. He seems the only person capable of taking a stand against Israel and the West. Unfortunately, Egypt has gotten too comfortable with Washington.”

Do the LAT’s writers ever bring up ol’ Mahmoud’s goal of “wiping Israel off the map”? Well, finally, in the fifth ‘graph from the end, in an aside quote of a Cairo accountant. And, in their sidebar capsuling a history of Iran’s leader they seem to not find it important to mention that he was a Basij instructor during the Iran-Iraq War, training thousands of children to become martyrs via clearing mine fields with their own bodies. Guess that little tidbit kinda just slipped their minds. They did mention that he was alleged to have been a member of the group that took control of the US Embassy after the ’79 Islamic Revolution. As they say about little favors . . .

Dean Barnett has a novel idea of how to deal with all this: Sharia Day at Columbia!

So what should Columbia do to appropriately honor Ahmadenijad? I say in for a dime, in for a dollar. If Columbia’s going to honor the insane Persian, do it in style and with full commitment. It’s not too late President Bollinger – declare today “Sharia Day” on Columbia’s campus.

Put all the women in burkas. Pull out a dozen or so Columbia co-eds so they can have their hymens inspected to make sure they haven’t violated their family’s honor. In keeping with the spirit of the day, I’m afraid this test will have to be pass/fail. Potentially aggrieved family members should be standing by with appropriate weaponry.

To further make the Mahdi at home, Columbia could round up a couple of homosexuals. In fervent Islamic circles like those the Mahdi leads, there happens to be a serious theological debate about whether pure practitioners of Islam should execute homosexuals by throwing them off a building or burying them alive. Thus, President Bollinger will have to deliver two gays to the Mahdi just to be on the safe side.

But the females and the gays shouldn’t be the only ones who get to participate in Sharia Day. Sharia is nothing if not inclusive. All of the campus’ non-Muslims can pay next year’s Poll Tax today. No reason everyone can’t be part of the festivities!

Sounds like fun! Bring the fam’ . . . just leave that cousin with the full Judy Garland collection at home — no use taking any chances, right? And, Britney and Madonna might want to take a pass, too. Just being cautious mind you. Dean also posts in full the “hard questions” to Columbia’s president Bollinger that Instapunk has leaked. Guess we all need to give Bollinger a bit more credit, although I’m still not convinced that ol’ Mahmoud should have ever been given that platform.

We’ll continue watching, and reading, all day today. As Scarlett says, “Tomorrow is another day.” Tomorrow at the UN — just another ramblin’, lyin’ pack of garbage out of one of the world’s vilest of pie holes.

Oh brother! Can’t wait to see this crap start happening out here in SoCal. You just KNOW that the People’s Republic of Santa Monica will be straining what little sense that they have trying to be the first on this side of the pond to be this tolerant of Muslim sensibilities. Will be hard though to do something as ridiculous and stupid as this groveling policy toward Scottish Muslims and their empty, growling stomachs during Ramadan.

HOSPITAL staff in the Lothians have been told not to eat at their desks to avoid offending Muslim colleagues during Ramadan.

NHS Lothian has advised doctors and other health workers not to have working lunches during the 30-day fast, which begins next month.

The health service’s Equality and Diversity Officer sent an e-mail to all senior managers, giving guidance on religious tolerance.

This includes ensuring Muslim staff are given breaks to pray, and time off to celebrate Eid at the end of Ramadan.

It is understood they also advised hospital managers to move food trolleys away from areas where Muslims work.

Mercy! Can’t make any poor Muslims that are practicing their religion and fasting during the days of Ramadan feel bad, now can we? As they are saying about this at JBlog Central:

The population of Scotland is just over 5 million.

The Muslim population in Scotland numbers around the 40,000 mark.

Yup it appears terrorism does work.

I’m feeling a tinge of disconnect at the moment after having read the Citroën Traction Avant section of Automobile Magazine’s “25 Best Cars of All Time” article in the current (Sept.) issue. Developed in cooperation with the Budd Company in 1934, this vehicle introduced to the world the unibody structure, an arc-welded monocoque frame, where all automobiles before had been built using body-on-frame designs. With this much-lighter weight, much-stiffer type of construction, front-wheel drive, an overhead-valve engine, torsion bar and wishbone front suspension and hydraulic brakes, as the Automobile magazine writer states, it was the first “modern” car — the precursor to almost all passenger cars built today. So Okie, that’s interestin’ an all, but what’s up with whining on about some sort of cognitive disconnect?

The reason for that is this. Only minutes before reading about this giant technology & manufacturing leap forward in 1934-Europe I had stumbled across this disturbing bit o’ information via a link in the comments at Gateway Pundit leading to TheReligionOfPeace.com and on to this Gates of Vienna post: Stop the Islamisation of Brussels.

Here’s a list of the ruling Socialist Party (PS) members of the Brussels city council headed by Mayor Freddy Thielemans.

Of the eighteen PS members, no fewer than ten have obvious Muslim names. It’s possible others may be ‘reverts’.

Thielemans is just a buffoonish front man. Muslims now control the key city at the heart of the European Union.

There is much more information available in the comments to this post. To me, the rapid decline in European western-self-awareness and seeming resignation to societal and cultural destruction is heartbreaking. To watch a continent, who’s intellectuals and craftsmen can create and develop something like this:

Devolve into some malignant society that believes and behaves like this . . .

Is that not pathetic? Is that not gut-wrenching? Is that not — frightening?

It’s definitely a wake up call to us in this country to identify and out the Dhimmis in our midst, to keep an ever watchful eye on those that promote jihad, to stop those that want to force public funding for madrassa, as Frank Gaffney noted last month:

As the American Left dilly-dallies through its presidential-candidate-selection process obsessing over the right to kill the unborn, the right to tax us all into poverty for the funding of ever more comprehensive entitlements, as they focus on fear mongering to convince us all that we must change our lifestyles, drive smaller, less-safe vehicles and shackle what’s left of American industry all in the name of stopping mankind-caused Global Warming — we on the Right had better make sure to ask our candidates how they are going to cope with an EU that easily could fall under Islamist-control much sooner than later — perhaps within the time of our next administration.

And on top of that, there’s this going on in Indonesia: Hardline group rallies for world Islamic rule — I know, I know. It’s only 70,000 out of a billion plus. Still, that’s a lot to put on the watch list, and we sure don’t seem to be doing a bang-up job there now, do we?

Geez — maybe I should have just kept reading the car mag! Where’s my Xanax?

That’s the question you have to ask as you read the story of Rev. Ann Holmes Redding, an Episcopal priest for over 20 years, who just recently announced that she had also become a Muslim about 15 months ago. See any conflict here? Laer at Cheat Seeking Missiles sure does:

Oh, she’s that sort of Christian, at the faith cafeteria, picking up the Jell-O of Jesus Loves You but passing by the steaming piles of Original Sin and the complicated meringue of the Trilogy.

Since I picked up a plate full o’ Christianity when I passed through the cafeteria line, it would actually be easier for me to be a Satanist — at least they believe Jesus is the Son of God — than a Muslim.

But then, I’m hardly as intellectual as Redding. Maybe I’m just a dupe to the simple faith that’s been around for 2,000 years saving souls, and should be more modern and learn to accept flexi-faith since it will make me feel better. After all, that’s what drew her in, this feeling good thing:

Rev. Redding sounds like a mess to me — a very screwed up dhimmi, that’s for sure. There’s nothing reconcilable between these two faiths that would allow one to actually believe the viability of and practice both at the same time. Laer also has a warning for her in his last graph. If she’s smart, she’d certainly heed that one!

The next time some idiot dhimmi tells you how peaceful and benevolent the “Religion of Peace” is, consider the fate of Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali, former member of the Dutch Parliament and author of The Caged Virgin and Infidel. She left her birth country for the Netherlands to escape the persecution for her leaving the “faith”, her friend and co-creator of the film Submission about her experiences, Theo Van Goh was murdered by Islamic extremists, and Ali faced constant death threats as long as she stayed in Holland. So, she came to the United States for true freedom and safety — freedom of expression, freedom of speech, freedom from constant death threats. Gee, that didn’t last very long! Say what you want about your religion.

Go ahead, say anything that comes into your mind — even if you don’t agree with your minister, your priest, your rabbi. Even if you think you’re right and they’ve got it all wrong, as long as you’re not making a direct threat to someone, you can disagree or turn your back and walk away to another faith or to no faith at all.

Here, in America, it’s OK. In a land of more than 3,000 diverse religions, your right to religious liberty is a guaranteed protection under the First Amendment.

“The key in the U.S. from the beginning has been to make sure all religious groups not only understand freedoms, but connect them to their own commitment,” said Charles C. Haynes, senior scholar and director of educational programs at the First Amendment Center in Arlington, Va., and Nashville.

A community debate over religious freedom surfaced in Western Pennsylvania last week when Dutch feminist author Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who has lived under the threat of death for denouncing her Muslim upbringing, made an appearance at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Islamic leaders tried to block the lecture, which was sponsored through an endowment from the Frank J. and Sylvia T. Pasquerilla Lecture Series. They argued that Hirsi Ali’s attacks against the Muslim faith in her book, “Infidel,” and movie, “Submission,” are “poisonous and unjustified” and create dissension in their community.

Although university officials listened to Islamic leaders’ concerns, the lecture planned last year took place Tuesday evening under tight security, with no incidents.

Imam Fouad ElBayly, president of the Johnstown Islamic Center, was among those who objected to Hirsi Ali’s appearance.

“She has been identified as one who has defamed the faith. If you come into the faith, you must abide by the laws, and when you decide to defame it deliberately, the sentence is death,” said ElBayly, who came to the U.S. from Egypt in 1976.

Ali was a victim of genital mutilation, and female subjugation before leaving her faith and her birth country. In the Dutch Parliament she was trying to address issues of mass-migration of Muslims into the Netherlands and their unwillingness to integrate themselves into Dutch society and culture. For those efforts, she was the recipient of many death threats.

Some religion of peace, huh? As far as I’m concerned, it’s the same song, second verse — over and over and over again! When are the “moderate” Muslims gonna stand up here in the U.S. and tell the radical members within their midst to stuff it? When are the moderate Muslims gonna stand up for the constitutional rights of all Americans to worship, or not, as they please? As far as I can tell, that when is probably never. As Bryan at Hot Air states:

If the US isn’t safe for her, it isn’t safe for you or me either.

You got that right! All I can say is that I hope Ali is at the range, workin’ on her skills.

‘America at a Crossroads’ is a CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) funded series of eleven documentaries that begins airing on your local PBS affiliate starting next week. Looking over the Los Angeles Times staff writer Matea Gold’s review in today’s Calendar section, I’m finding a few mixed messages, but lots of liberal bias, not to mention that I’m not finding something that should be the REAL STORY concerning this series — the missing film, “Islam vs. Islamism: Voices From The Muslim Center” by Martyn Burke, Frank Gaffney and Alex Alexiev of ABG Films, Inc.

I first heard about this series and the film, “Islam vs. Islamism: Voices From The Muslim Center”, on Hugh Hewitt’s show April 4th. Frank Gaffney, who with his associates at the Center For Security Policy had made the film, was explaining to Hugh how politicized the process was at CPB, PBS and WETA and how the film, all paid for and ready to air, will not see the light of day — at least not on PBS.

Here’s a short segment with Gaffney confronting PBS’s Robin MacNeil on the Diane Rehm show.

DR: Frank Gaffney, you’re on the air.

FG: Good morning, Diane, and good morning, Robin. We are among a small team of filmmakers who had a film selected for the Crossroads series, and unfortunately, apparently, those who have been responsible for making the final decisions on it found our treatment of moderate Muslims, anti-Islamist Muslims, in the face of the efforts by Islamist Muslims to suppress them, in America, in Canada, and in Europe, to be too hot to handle, and insisted on dramatic changes that would have really gut the film and its content and its message. The film has been suppressed, in short, by PBS at the moment.

DR: Suppressed, Robin?

RM: Which film is that?

FG: This is a film called Islam Vs. Islamist.

RM: Yes, I’m very familiar with it, and I can answer the charge. It is not been suppressed. It has been, it was rejected for the twelve because it was considered highly one-sided in its approach to, and alarmist in its approach to exactly what the woman in Texas was just saying.

Not only was it not selected — actually it was going to be scheduled and after being deep-sixed by the PBS cognoscenti another film was hurriedly commissioned to take its place — a film that would show the radical Muslims in America in a much better light. More on that in a minute. Back to Hugh’s show and more Gaffney reaction:

HH: Well, Frank Gaffney, alarmist and one-sided about the war against the Islamist jihadists. I guess that’s a charge to which you’ll cop?

FG: Well, actually, I won’t.

HH: I know. Go ahead, it’s a set up.

FG: No, we went to great lengths, under enormous pressure from PBS, to dumb down this film to keep it from being hyperbolic, let alone alarmist. The thing that comes across, though, Hugh, if Americans can actually see this film as opposed to having it be censored by PBS, is that it is alarming what these anti-Islamist Muslims are telling us. They’re alarmed. They’re frightened, not only for their own lives, which are in many cases literally at risk, but for what they see happening to Western societies where these Islamists are insinuating themselves and creating what they call parallel societies. And perhaps your audience is aware of this unbelievable ruling by a German judge, one of the countries under assault from the Islamists just a weekend or two ago, in which she found that a Muslim woman could not divorce her Muslim husband because he was beating her, on the grounds that the Koran permits him to beat her, a prime example of the parallel society that we’re chronicling in this film, and that we think the American people are entitled…they paid for it, they’re entitled to see it.

Can’t let the free Western world get a true understanding of what the Dhimmis and the multi-culteralists are up to, can’t make any dispersions against radical Islam — that’s taking a side against a religion, which is only allowed to happen against Jews and Christians, not against Muslims. Maybe it was that “Voices From The Muslim Center” part of the title that got these guys in hot water at CPB? Maybe!

HH: Voices from the Muslim center.

FG: And it is ready to go. It is a powerful film, not because, again, of hot, you know, narration or music, but because of the power of the stories told by these anti-Islamist Muslims themselves.

HH: Now Martin Burke, whom you partnered with in producing this, and I want again make clear, even though you’re with the Center For Security Policy, it is not a Center For Security Policy film, and you are not working on it as in your capacity of Center For Security Policy. But Martin Burke is an experienced filmmaker?

FG: He is quite accomplished. He has done a number of feature films, documentaries and others, and has been keenly following this story, actually going back to twenty years ago when he made a documentary about the Wahabis and the Islamists and the Soviets and the evolving story in Afghanistan.

Sounds like some real bonifides there for making a film of this nature. But, just wait until you read the rest of this to see just how far the CPB, PBS and WETA went to gut it, before just tossing it aside.

HH: All right, www.securefreedom.org, also producer, along with Martin Burke, of a new film, Islam Vs. Islamist: Voices From The Muslim Center, originally funded by, well, funded completely by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, meaning your money, pursuant to a competition to bring new voices about crucial issues to the screen. And Frank, how did that actually happen?

FG: Well, it was a very exciting idea. About two, two and a half years ago, the CPB, as it calls itself, put out requests for proposals from 440 filmmakers, came up with ideas. We, working with Martin Burke, my other colleague, Alex Alexiev, helped put together the proposal. It was 35 out of 440 that was deemed meritorious enough to get a research and development grant. It was then down selected further, to be just one of twenty films that received a very substantial grant to actually make the movie. And at every step along the way, there was a rigorous competition, there was an opportunity for, you know, other films to go head to head with ours. And in each of these instances, with the help of a very distinguished board of advisors that CPB commissioned, ours was selected, because the story of these anti-Islamist Muslims, these endangered species, was recognized to be so compelling and so powerful, and the filmmaking of Martin Burke so, well, high quality, that we were given the go ahead. And in fact, the CPB at one point said we were going to be one of eight films. It’s now turned out to be one of eleven films that were going to be rolled out on the 15th of April, coming up very shortly. In fact, Robin MacNeil was on the Diane Rehm show, you played that tape earlier, for the purpose of promoting this series of films. Unfortunately, ours is not going to be one of them, as he said, in his own words, because it is alarmist, and extremely one-sided. And I just plead with Pat Harrison, a wonderful woman who runs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and who has been very helpful to us to this point, to help allow us to have the opportunity to show this film on another network, since PBS is not going to do it, as soon as possible, because frankly, it’s very timely.

American people need to know about it, and I think frankly, they need to know about it more than they need to know about Robin MacNeil’s vision of Muslims in America, which it turns out, according to his website, he, by the way, got a film as part of this series when he became the moderator, that was not selected as part of the competition. It wasn’t even submitted as part of the competition. It was one of a number of examples, Hugh, of instances in which it appears that the people at PBS were so determined to keep our film from being shown, that they actually commissioned another film outside of the competition to cover some of the same subject matter. But interestingly enough, according to Robin MacNeil, the Muslims in America are the Muslims of the Muslim Student Association, a very well known Wahabi front organization, credited with recruiting terrorists on American college campuses. And that’s the subject of his film, his vision of American Muslims, as opposed to the anti-Islamist Muslims that are featured in ours. And that’s the man who’s deciding, it appears, at least in league with others, deciding as to which of the films is one-sided, or alarmist. And I’m afraid…

Did you get that? Burke and Gaffney’s film just didn’t suit the preconceived notions of the PBS liberal elite — thy would rather that you hear what the radical Muslim groups in America are saying, not the anti-Islamist Muslims. That makes no sense to me at all. Of course the mind of modern Leftists makes no sense to me at all, either.

HH: Now Frank Gaffney, I want to make sure everyone understands, this was not some out of left field, or right field whack-job propaganda piece. This went through the whole PBS process, and at the very last minute, they said nah, we’re not going to show it, because we don’t like the message. I must say, that is extraordinarily offensive to any 1st Amendment-minded…it might be technically acceptable under PBS guidelines, but it just offends the idea of those of us who deal in the world of ideas every day.

FG: Well, I’m hoping that the larger story will come out here, Hugh, because if you are as minded as I know you are, and I’m sure most of your audience are, there will be much to find offense with here, not least of which was, if you can believe it, after those advisors who helped vet these films in a very high quality way from CPB’s point of view, PBS became responsible, with WETA, their flagship station in Washington, for the film. And at that point, our problems grew enormously. And importantly, they hired as advisors five people, one of whom was a publicly acknowledged, in fact, avowed admirer of Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam. And it happens that one of the features of our film is an insight into how the Wahabis started buying the Nation of Islam with $1 million dollars to build black Wahabi mosques in America. This woman not only was completely inappropriate for advising on a film, had an obvious conflict of interest, but much worse, she took our film in the rough cut form, and showed it to the Nation of Islam. And the WETA people, and the PBS people, found nothing wrong with that at all.

I’m, I’m at a loss for words about that last graph, at least at a loss of words that I allow on this blog. Your tax dollars support the CPB and PBS. This is what you get for your money.

Now — finally — bringing the title of this post into the story. The LA Times’ Matea Gold writes about the remaining eleven films, from a standpoint that the CPB has finally found its way back from the brink of radical Conservatism — which had been foisted upon it by the Bush administration.

“America at a Crossroads” did not get off to an auspicious start. From the beginning, the ambitious $20-million effort to examine the complexities of the post-Sept. 11 world through a series of documentaries — an initiative of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the private nonprofit that distributes federal funds to public television and radio — was greeted with skepticism.

Independent producers and local station programmers, alarmed that CPB officials at the time were agitating for more conservatives on the air, feared the venture was driven by a political agenda. Tensions flared publicly at a March 2004 forum in Manhattan, where hostile audience members exchanged angry accusations with a panel assembled to discuss the project.

“This whole thing stinks,” declared an employee of the National Black Programming Consortium.

Since then, tempers have cooled substantially.

The 11-part “Crossroads” series that will air in prime time next week on PBS has received largely positive reviews in the public broadcasting community, including from many station executives initially wary of it.

God forbid that the American public actually have a dialog about what has happened to us and the rest of the world since 9/11. Especially in light of the emergence of radical Islam as a world-wide threat — might make universal health care and global warming seem insignificant — and good little Leftists can’t have anything like that.

“I would not have said this was my first choice for where we should have put our efforts,” said Ron Pisaneschi, director of broadcasting at Idaho Public Television. “We have limited amounts of funds at our disposal and we have a lot of different things we could spend it on. But at the end of the day, I think we have 11 documentaries that are pretty darn strong.”

Three years in the making, “Crossroads” serves as a measure of how much public broadcasting has succeeded in moving past the political tumult that recently gripped it.

“I think the system is working together very strongly now,” said Greg Diefenbach, CPB’s new senior vice president of television programming. “This series evidences that public broadcasting is alive and well.”

Evidence that the Left is firmly back in control of Public Broadcasting!

Since then, public broadcasting officials have worked to rid “Crossroads” of any political taint. Washington public television station WETA took over production last year and brought in veteran PBS journalist Robert MacNeil to host it.

“I was intrigued by it,” MacNeil said. “What better can public broadcasters do than steer the dialogue and ask some serious questions?”

Uh, go back up and read Gaffney’s remarks again. I don’t think that WETA’s involvement and MacNeil’s hosting, not to mention his own non-contest film being part of the eleven, does anything to “rid” the series “of any political taint.” In fact, it has done the exact opposite.

PBS officials said the 11 documentaries being shown next week — culled from more than 400 proposals — would expose the work of filmmakers new to PBS and would showcase perspectives not often given a broad platform.

Just not the views of America’s anti-Islamist Muslims — the platform wasn’t broad enough for that!

So, there you have it, folks. Once again the LA Times misses, or ignores because of left-leaning bias, the real story behind a story. If the Times really wanted to report about “America at a Crossroads”, what they should have done was tell us about the “one that got away”. Funny, that wasn’t even mentioned today — and we all paid for it!

Is Europe toast, or what? This is being reported by the UK’s Daily Mail, but don’t be surprised to see something like this proposed over here. CAIR must be ecstatic!

Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Government backed study has revealed.

It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.

There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades – where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem – because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.

The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history ‘as a vehicle for promoting political correctness’.

Once that PC genie got out of the bottle, all hell has broken loose. Neo-Natzis must feel like its Christmas or something, not that that would be PC to teach, either. The DM goes on:

The study, funded by the Department for Education and Skills, looked into ‘emotive and controversial’ history teaching in primary and secondary schools.

It found some teachers are dropping courses covering the Holocaust at the earliest opportunity over fears Muslim pupils might express anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class.

The researchers gave the example of a secondary school in an unnamed northern city, which dropped the Holocaust as a subject for GCSE coursework.

The report said teachers feared confronting ‘anti-Semitic sentiment and Holocaust denial among some Muslim pupils’.

It added: “In another department, the Holocaust was taught despite anti-Semitic sentiment among some pupils.

“But the same department deliberately avoided teaching the Crusades at Key Stage 3 (11- to 14-year-olds) because their balanced treatment of the topic would have challenged what was taught in some local mosques.”

God help us all if FACTS are taught in public schools instead of the propaganda and hate being spewed in the radical European mosques. Ignore history if the truth hurts.

But Chris McGovern, history education adviser to the former Tory government, said: “History is not a vehicle for promoting political correctness. Children must have access to knowledge of these controversial subjects, whether palatable or unpalatable.”

The researchers also warned that a lack of subject knowledge among teachers – particularly at primary level – was leading to history being taught in a ‘shallow way leading to routine and superficial learning’.

Lessons in difficult topics were too often ‘bland, simplistic and unproblematic’ and bored pupils.

Now, there’s a choice bit o’ info. Maybe it’s more laziness or incompetence on the part of the teachers than much of anything else. As free Westerners, we’re going to pay an increasingly terrible price for all the lax and self-centered educational follies of the Baby Boomer generation. Globalization, multiculturalism, secularism combined with a reverence by the elite for Euro-centric concepts and morals continues to escalate the decline of our civilization. Believe me, the Islamofascists have no self doubt, have no sense of fair-play, and don’t give a rat’s ass what you or I think — and won’t be at all appreciative of the efforts of the misguided Brit teachers to not hurt their feelings. The truth is, they want to hurt a lot more than someone’s feelings . . .

If you take a side trip over to Hot Air, today’s Vent by Michelle Malkin shows us that Google-owned YouTube is up to its old Dhimmitude tricks once again with the banning of atheist Nick Gisburne’s video in which he recites the violent passages from the Quran. Just one more of many barrings, removals, acct. closures by the YouTube hierarchy over alleged slights or insults to the Islamic religion. Funny, not funny ha ha, but you can rant, rave, insult, demean and decry Christianity as much as you want in the YouTube world, but make mention of the fact that most of the world’s most vile, disgusting, deliberate violence against innocents is being executed in the name of the “religion-of-peace” and you get the YouTube hook!

Thanks Michelle for keepin’ it real! And thanks, Google — for livin’ up to your corporate motto, “Do no evil” — Not!

Michelle Malkin scores a Mark Steyn first — his first vBlog interview, part 1 of which is now up over at Hot Air. I love listening to Steyn on Hewitt’s show, and am always enlightened by his writing at Steyn Online, but since I don’t get to actually see him very often, this interview is a real treat.

Topics discussed are the new French Intifada (on average 112 cars being burned per day by “non-described youths”), the fact that in many European cites if you observe those out and about in the evenings, they look like Muslim cities, that the average age in Gaza City is now only 15.6 years old, and that this population of millions has been raised in and only knows the “death-culture” of the Arafat terror-state. Some part-one, huh?

To the question asked by Malkin, “Can we win the war in Iraq?”, Steyn answers that this can only happen if we “are absolutely confident in who we are.”

I don’t see that level of confidence from the Democrats. WE must win this conflict with radical Islam. Given those realities, it’s not very hard to decide which party must retain control of Congress . . . (db)

Which is how today’s Vent at Hotair.com wraps up after Michelle covers the premiere and subsequent reactions to the Universal movie United 93, which as I imagine most of you know is about the doomed hijacked flight that was diverted by brave passengers who forced it down into a Pennsylvania field instead of allowing it to continue on to its radical jihadists’ intended target, either the White House or the Capitol Building.

Michelle concentrates her most potent venom for the French reviewers, who declared the movie racist because it actually depicts radical Muslims as radical Muslims, and the apologetics responsible for Universal’s official U93 discussion website, where they post an essay titled Why They Hate America. As Michelle points out, this discussion never once mentions Osama bin Laden, or the fact that Muslims had conquered the Middle East hundreds of years before the Crusades. Take this statement from the piece about Jihad for example:

(…) There are many reasons for the acting out of such views – whether in the Middle East due to the development of the nation of Israel in the 1940s, or more recently the bombing of the U.S. embassies in Africa, the first World Trade Center bombing attempt, the USS Cole blast, the 9/11 catastrophe, or the British bombing of last year.

Not that it makes much, if any, sense as written, but you get the idea. It’s all about the joooooooooos! of course. And the West! Hey, everything’s our fault, right? Not so fast there pardner, according to one of my readers who had this to say about a prior post:

(…) There will never be any true peace or understanding between the non-Muslims (Infidels) and Muslims until: (1) The religion of Islam changes and modernizes itself or (2) We take appropriate steps to Stop the dysfucntional diatribes and anti-West rhetoric of the Muslims or (3) the Koranic directed Dar al-Islam (House of Islam) is extended to the entire world and Islam is victorious in creating a World-Wide Caliphate–in the medieval sense. The faster we realize the real objective of Islam, the faster we can develop appropriate strategies to counteract it. Otherwise: Ave Mohammed, morituri te salutamus!

In his April 8th column for the Jerusalem Post, Mark Steyn reviews two new books — “While Europe Slept: How Radical Islam Is Destroying The West From Within by Bruce Bawer, and Menace In Europe: Why The Continent’s Crisis Is America’s, Too by Claire Berlinski” and comments on what they reveal about the continuing decline of European civilization. Steyn has pointed commentary on what the differences are between those Americans that dislike European folly and the Europeans that revile Americans and our way of life.

The difference between “anti-Americanism” and “anti-Europeanism” is obvious. In, say, 2025, America will be much as it is today – big, powerful, albeit (to sophisticated Continentals) absurdly vulgar and provincial. But in 20 years’ time Europe will be an economically moribund demographic basket case: Seventeen Continental nations have what’s known as “lowest-low” fertility – below 1.3 live births per woman – from which no population has ever recovered.

For those want to keeping score, don’t bet on Europe without getting a ton of points!

The only question about Europe is whether it’s going to be (a) catastrophically bad or (b) apocalyptically bad, as in head for the hills, here come the Four Horsemen: Death (the self-extinction of European races too self-absorbed to breed), Famine (the withering of unaffordable social programs), War (civil strife as the disaffected decide to move beyond mere Citroen-torching) and Conquest (the inevitable victory of the Muslim successor population already in place).

The only “salvation” that I can foresee for Europe is Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Italy joining with and backing the United States in stopping Iran from becoming a nuclear power. To do so would force them to somehow “deal” with their un-assimilated Muslim populations sooner rather than later. In the process, they might even have to back away from their inefficient, crumbling social-welfare societal structure — maybe even procreating once in a blue-moon or so? Lot’s o’ hot, nasty sex goin’ on over there — how about a few “European” babies coming out of the deal?

Unfortunately, Mr. Steyn’s analysis is probably way to much on-the-mark:

I’d say Option (b) looks the better bet, for a few if not all Continental nations: United they’ll fall, but divided a handful might stand a chance.

[Quoting Charles Murray] . . . even if it were affordable, the European social democratic state would still be fatal. “Give people plenty and security, and they will fall into spiritual torpor,” he writes. “When life becomes an extended picnic, with nothing of importance to do, ideas of greatness become an irritant.” If Bawer’s book is a wake-up call, Murray reminds us that western Europe long ago threw away the alarm clock and decided to sleep in.

When Europe does finally wake up and call for room service, what it will find knocking on the door is the stoning pit and a rusty-serrated knife! (db)

David Warren, in his Real Clear Politics column yesterday, Staring Down Shariah, discusses the aftermath of the Abdul Rahman incident, the efforts it took to keep Rahman from being tortured and then killed, and what we, as Westerners, will need to do in the future in regards to protecting ourselves against those that believe we all should be dead.

The case of Abdul Rahman, like the organized Danish cartoon apoplexy (still continuing in some parts of the world, where Muslim demagogues are still using it to whoop up anti-Western hysteria), brings us face to face with Islamic doctrines inimical to the survival of our civilization. And here, I wish I could say “Islamist”, but the unpleasant truth is, Islamic doctrines. For the Shariah principles in question are shared by all four of the Sunni schools of jurisprudence (Maliki, Hanbali, Hanafi, and Shafi’i), plus the Shia school. There is no “sixth school” that recognizes religious and civic freedom, in any way that resembles what these expressions mean in the West.

All five of the actual schools or traditions take a view of idolatry, that entirely removes the possibility of freedom of expression in public life. Moreover, all take a view of apostasy that presents a palpable threat to the life and liberty of every non-Muslim, and excommunicated Muslim. And such doctrines as “jihad” (when interpreted as perpetual holy war against all infidels), and “razzia” (permission to raid and plunder our infidel communities) are not such as can be assimilated with Western jurisprudence.

We cannot pretend for long, the way President Bush has been doing (albeit from humane and sound tactical motives to begin with), that the Shariah is compatible with freedom and democracy. The systems of government we advocate, or by necessity impose, must explicitly provide civil protection to non-Muslims and Muslims alike, against Shariah courts and their rulings. I have come to realize there is no alternative to this.

The Dhimmis in Great Britain are rushing toward Islamization at a furious rate. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has its own plans for the U.S. — Here’s Daniel Pipes, talking about CAIR and its plans:

CAIR’s personnel are normally tight-lipped about the organization’s agenda but sometimes let their ambitions slip out. CAIR’s long-serving chairman, Omar Ahmad, reportedly told a crowd of California Muslims in July 1998, “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran … should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.” Five years later, Ahmad denied having said this and issued a press release saying he was seeking a retraction. But the reporter stood behind her story, and the newspaper that reported Ahmad’s remarks told WorldNetDaily it had “not been contacted by CAIR.”

That means that CAIR wants Sharia to be the highest law in the U.S., over and above the Constitution and the established rule of law.

But, CAIR must be speaking for the radicals, right? Not so fast, ’cause as Pipes opens up the piece, he writes:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), headquartered in Washington, is perhaps the best-known and most controversial Muslim organization in North America. CAIR presents itself as an advocate for Muslims’ civil rights and the spokesman for American Muslims. (…)

We must hope that this isn’t so. Hey Obama — you want to weigh in on this?

If I hadn’t gone to the New York Times website page and read this one for myself, I would have thought that Michelle was really pulling my leg, maybe both of them! But, unfortunately for the New York area residents, and anyone else that has the stupidity to rely on the Gray Lady for their primary, secondary or even tertiary information, the Dhimmi at the NYT are in control, and they can no longer report the news without prostrating themselves to their fears of radical Islam. First of all, their gonad-less editors titled the piece in question Defendant Offers Details of Jeep Attack at University. It goes downhill from there.

The man charged with nine counts of attempted murder for driving a Jeep through a crowd at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last Friday told the police that he deliberately rented a four-wheel-drive vehicle so he could “run over things and keep going,” according to court papers released yesterday by investigators.

Details in the search warrant for the Carrboro, N.C., apartment of the defendant, Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, suggest that he had planned his actions for months and was disappointed the attack had not done more damage. None of the nine people who were struck by the Jeep Grand Cherokee as they were standing in a campus commons area known as the Pit were seriously injured.

According to statements taken by the police, Mr. Taheri-azar, 22, an Iranian-born graduate of the university, felt that the United States government had been “killing his people across the sea” and that his actions reflected “an eye for an eye.”

Let’s call this quality of reporting what it is — What a load of horse shit!

Here’s how a news outlet with brass-ones (WRAL.com), by comparison to the effete NYT, reported the same statements by Taheri-azar:

A man who authorities said confessed to deliberately hitting nine people on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus told a 911 dispatcher that he committed the act to “punish the government of the United States for [its] actions around the world,” according to a 911 call released Monday.

Smiling and waving as he left court, where he was appointed a public defender, Taheri-azar told reporters, “The truth is my lawyer.” When asked if he was trying to kill people, he said yes.

They wear their political correctness like a necklace of courage back there in NYC. Actually, it’s just a cut-along-the-line template for the predators that they are kowtowing to with their milk toast prose. Michelle has many more links to those that agree with this assessment.

Anyone that follows the news — reads a newspaper, watches TV news, reads a blog — has more than likely heard about Ilan Halimi, the 23 year old Jewish man that was found tortured (cut up, beaten, and burned) outside Paris, who then died in the ambulance on the way to hospital. But, I would bet that most of you are like me, and haven’t yet heard about the other two Jewish victims that Mark Steyn writes about in the Chicago Sun Times article Needing to wake up, West just closes its eyes.

In five years’ time, how many Jews will be living in France? Two years ago, a 23-year-old Paris disc jockey called Sebastien Selam was heading off to work from his parents’ apartment when he was jumped in the parking garage by his Muslim neighbor Adel. Selam’s throat was slit twice, to the point of near-decapitation; his face was ripped off with a fork; and his eyes were gouged out. Adel climbed the stairs of the apartment house dripping blood and yelling, “I have killed my Jew. I will go to heaven.”

Is that an gripping story? You’d think so. Particularly when, in the same city, on the same night, a Jewish woman was brutally murdered in the presence of her daughter by another Muslim. You’ve got the making of a mini-trend there, and the media love trends.

Yet no major French newspaper carried the story.

This month, there was another murder. Ilan Halimi, also 23, also Jewish, was found by a railway track outside Paris with burns and knife wounds all over his body. He died en route to the hospital, having been held prisoner, hooded and naked, and brutally tortured for almost three weeks by a gang that had demanded half a million dollars from his family. Can you take a wild guess at the particular identity of the gang? Since then, Iran has sportingly offered to solve the problem of the Israeli threat to world peace by wiping the Zionist Entity off the face of the map. But what a tragedy that those peace-loving Iranians have been provoked into launching nuclear armageddon by those pushy Jews.

Stein certainly can turn a phrase. But, it’s what he follows up that last sentence with that is the meat of this story, and the true terror that Europe, and maybe the entire Western World is going to have to face up to.

Something very remarkable is happening around the globe and, if you want the short version, a Muslim demonstrator in Toronto the other day put it very well:

”We won’t stop the protests until the world obeys Islamic law.”

The Dhimmis in our midst, especially in the MSM, go out of their way to not offend Muslims, while at the same time, have no compunction with demeaning Christianity in all its forms. How else to explain using a picture of the controversial Piss Christ work, a crucifix exhibited in a container of urine, or again placing a photo of the painting of the Virgin Mary smeared with elephant dung on the front page of the New York Times, to illustrate a piece on the Mohammad cartoons as printed in Denmark? Easy to understand, Catholics aren’t going to go out and burn the Times headquarters, or kidnap and behead any Times’ reporters, hell, they probably won’t even cancel their subscriptions, but better not piss off the Muslims over there — or even over here. Sure smacks of Dhimmitude to me. Stein continues:

What, in the end, are all these supposedly unconnected matters from Danish cartoons to the murder of a Dutch filmmaker to gender-segregated swimming sessions in French municipal pools about? Answer: sovereignty. Islam claims universal jurisdiction and always has. The only difference is that they’re now acting upon it.

What so many in our own media simply won’t, or are afraid to report, Stein just lays out there, bold, matter of fact — backed up by facts — along with clear, concise reasoning. My SCBA blogging buddy, Laer Pierce, writing about French protests over the Halimi murder, seems to have a bit more optimism than this ol’ Okie, but does ask an important question.

I agree with your assessment, however, we need to address the growing and not so clandestine 5th column that is lurking in our country. As Americans we are too apathetic about the threat from within. It’s just not “politically correct” to address the issue and the Muslim “moderates” in the USA are adroitly managing our apathy.

Vegetius, the 4th Century roman military writer said it best over 17 centuries ago: Qui desiderat pacem praeparet bellum.

“Let him who want peace prepare for war.”

Somehow, I think that Mark Steyn is saying the same thing. (db)
