Turkey Day Costumes “Demeaning” To Indians — More Culture War Madness In CA

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Up the wazzoo awardWow, the elitist waging war on our culture sure have been busy! Earlier I wrote about a Florida University that can’t stomach holiday decorations. A little closer to home, (too damn close mind you!), more of those enlightened individuals known as college/university professors have decided that kindergarten kids wearing traditional Thanksgiving day costumes is demeaning to native Americans. Oh, please . . .

For decades, Claremont kindergartners have celebrated Thanksgiving by dressing up as pilgrims and Native Americans and sharing a feast. But on Tuesday, when the youngsters meet for their turkey and songs, they won’t be wearing their hand-made bonnets, headdresses and fringed vests.

Parents in this quiet university town are sharply divided over what these construction-paper symbols represent: A simple child’s depiction of the traditional (if not wholly accurate) tale of two factions setting aside their differences to give thanks over a shared meal? Or a cartoonish stereotype that would never be allowed of other racial, ethnic or religious groups?

“It’s demeaning,” Michelle Raheja, the mother of a kindergartner at Condit Elementary School, wrote to her daughter’s teacher. “I’m sure you can appreciate the inappropriateness of asking children to dress up like slaves (and kind slave masters), or Jews (and friendly Nazis), or members of any other racial minority group who has struggled in our nation’s history.”

{…}

Raheja, an English professor at UC Riverside who specializes in Native American literature, said she met with teachers and administrators in hopes that the district could hold a public forum to discuss alternatives that celebrate thankfulness without “dehumanizing” her daughter’s ancestry.

Nice to know that someone teaching at the university level in SoCal thinks that “Jews (and friendly Nazis)” are part of “our nation’s history”. Excuse me Michelle, wasn’t that Nazi Germany? Getting your oppressed peoples a tad bit mixed up aren’t we?

Last week, rumors began to circulate on both campuses that the district was planning to cancel the event, and infuriated parents argued over the matter at a heated school board meeting Thursday. District Supt. David Cash announced at the end of the meeting that the two schools had tentatively decided to hold the event without the costumes, and sent a memo to parents Friday confirming the decision.

Cash and the principals of Condit and Mountain View did not respond to interview requests.

But many parents, who are convinced the decision was made before the board meeting, accused administrators of bowing to political correctness.

Life is getting more and more like South Park’s Mr. Hankey episode.

This Christmas-themed episode of South Park opens as the children rehearse their Christmas play. They are performing a Christian Nativity, and when Kyle’s mother hears of this, she is infuriated by the play, because her son, a Jew, plays the role of Joseph. Mrs. Broflovski is offended by the Christian imagery, and demands that the religious elements be taken out of the public school Christmas pageant, since they don’t celebrate Christmas. (…)

Mayor McDaniels decides that anything offensive to anyone will be removed from the Christmas celebrations, including Santa Claus, wreaths, trees, stars, lights, candy canes, and mistletoe. (…)

Ultimately, the school Christmas pageant, along with the whole town, is stripped of all symbols of Christmas, as anything that does resemble Christmas is deemed offensive by someone (…) . Instead, the children present a minimalist song and dance created by Philip Glass. The parents, astounded by how awful the pageant has turned out, begin blaming one another for destroying Christmas, and a fight breaks out.

If that doesn’t sound a heck of a lot like this . . .

Among the costume supporters, there is a vein of suspicion that casts Raheja and others opposed to the costumes as agenda-driven elitists. Of the handful of others who spoke with Raheja against the costumes at the board meeting, one teaches at the University of Redlands, one is an instructor at Riverside Community College, and one is a former Pitzer College professor.

Raheja is “using those children as a political platform for herself and her ideas,” Constance Garabedian said as her 5-year-old Mountain View kindergartner happily practiced a song about Native Americans in the background. “I’m not a professor and I’m not a historian, but I can put the dots together.”

{…}

“Its always a good thing to think about, critically, how we teach kids, even from very young ages, the message we want them to learn, and the respect for the diversity of the American experiences,” said Jennifer Tilton, an assistant professor of race and ethnic studies at the University of Redlands and a Claremont parent who opposes the costumes.

Ya know? Sometimes a bit too much education is a debilitating thing. Don’t think that everyone that teaches at the college and university level are super-smart. From the way they carry on, a good lot o’ them don’t know “Mr. Hankey” from Shinola!

No Christmas Allowed — Maybe We Should Just Nuke So. Florida

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

We’ve discussed this before — that the college and university system is hell-bent on the destruction of Judeo-Christian culture. If you have kids going to Florida Gulf Coast University you better be all in with that ’cause they ain’t about to let a little Christmas cheer be spread around, not in their precious little secular enclave. The Fort Myers News-Press has the skinny:

Christmas is just 30 days away, but Santa Claus won’t be stopping by Florida Gulf Coast University this holiday.

He’s not allowed on campus.

FGCU administration has banned all holiday decorations from common spaces on campus and canceled a popular greeting card design contest, which is being replaced by an ugly sweater competition. In Griffin Hall, the university’s giving tree for needy preschoolers has been transformed into a “giving garden.”

The moves boil down to political correctness.

“Public institutions, including FGCU, often struggle with how best to observe the season in ways that honor and respect all traditions,” President Wilson Bradshaw wrote in a memo to faculty and staff Thursday. “This is a challenging issue each year at FGCU, and 2008 is no exception. While it may appear at times that a vocal majority of opinion is the only view that is held, this is not always the case.”

They received 44 anonymous comments, all against the decorations ban. The staff and students quoted in the article were all good with having holiday decorations. Only the Lilly-livered, oh-my-god-they’re-gonna-sue-the-pants-off-us, POS university administrators are for it.

Just another firefight in the Culture Wars.

Be careful where you send your kids to school — they aren’t just learnin’ math, science and history — they’re being brainwashed by the secular humanists in our midst. Send your sweet little Janie and little Johnny to the wrong institution and you might just get back your very own Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. There’s a holiday thought for the ages — oh, ya betcha!

CA Anti-Prop 8 Effort Getting Ever More Heated

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I supported the California initiative Proposition 8 and even worked on videos for the ProtectMarriage.com effort. My YouTube profile is now constantly under attack by LGBT hate-mongers, although their profane comments roll off my back like water off a duck’s — I’ve read deeply into my Richard Marcinko and I could out-cuss the little suckers with nary an effort! What is most distressing are the efforts on the part of the LGBT community to attack the Mormon Church. These attacks are now the tip of the spear in their zeal to organize that community all over the country to complete the destruction the traditional meaning of marriage all across the land. John at Article 6 Blog comments on a NY Times letter-to-the-editor about this:

Now for starters, let us consider that running a campaign and winning a vote is BY DEFINITION “civil” whilst riots, vandalism, forcing people out of jobs, and threats of physical harm, are all, likewise BY DEFINITION NOT CIVIL! If we accept for the sake of argument that this is a civil rights issue (which I DO NOT – how can something that we issue a license for be a right?) these people forget the essential lesson of Martin Luther King’s non-violent civil disobedience campaign. It was in the non-threatening, non-destructive nature of the King lead protests, and the violent ugly response of the governmental and non-governmental oppressors, that the nation learned the lesson of the wrong of segregation. All we are learning from the activities of the so-called LGBT community after Prop 8 is that they are a bunch of self-involved, petulant, violent miscreants more obsessed with their own desire than the simple peace of the community.

I’ve said it here before and will do so again. I don’t wish harm, or even second-class citizen status for those attracted to same sex relationships. If they are willing to make legal-long-term commitments to each other they should have the same legal rights as opposite sex couples. However, the traditional meaning of the word “marriage” does not have to be abrogated/hijacked in this regard. Marriage has traditional and religious connotations. To apply that term to same-sex unions makes the term “marriage” meaningless — which is what I think the more radical of the LGBT activists have in mind. It’s just another attack by the secular humanists to bring down the Judeo-Christian basis of our culture and our laws.

Ask a LGBT protester that if society granted ALL the rights and benefits of opposite-sex marriage to same-sex unions but under a different name, such as “domestic partner” or “civil union” would that get them to stop pushing for “gay marriage”? The answer is no, Hell NO!

Not satisfied with being tolerated, this group wants acceptance — total acceptance by any and all. In fact, they want their lifestyles depicted in the light of being as much of an ideal for society as opposite sex unions — to do anything less would violate their “civil rights”. Well, since there’s no scientific evidence that shows sexual preference as being hard-wired into ourselves, to call one’s sexuality a civil right is an insult to the Civil Rights Movement.

There’s a gauntlet being thrown down here by both sides.

Just another battlefront in the ever-ongoing Culture Wars.

Anti-CA Prop 8 Protests Get Ugly — El Coyote Ugly!

Friday, November 14th, 2008

In case you just came back from a trip to Mars or something, last week the voters of the state of California, for the second time in 8 years, declared that “marriage” in CA is to be defined as between one man and one woman. This Constitutional “amendment” overturned last summer’s ruling by the CA Supreme Court that had struck down Prop 22, which had passed with over 60% majority in 2000. Prop 8 was a lot closer result, but it still was a majority vote, which is all that is needed to “amend” the CA Constitution. So much for the will of the people out here!

The anti-Prop 8 folks are getting more hyper and more in-your-face with the passing of every new day. The effort to scour the public information on donors to the pro-Prop 8 campaign that preceded the election has turned into a Herculean effort to find and denigrate any and all who supported this amendment. Diana West describes one such effort that happened in West Hollywood where a group of anti-Prop 8 protesters had a “meeting” with the elderly Mormon owner of El Coyote restaurant. Her “crime”? She gave a $100 donation in support of Prop 8. [H/t: Michelle Malkin]

Only. One. Hundred. Measly. Little. Dollars.

“I’m sick of heart that I’ve offended anyone in the gay community,” said Marjorie Christoffersen, co-owner of El Coyote Mexican Cafe for 17 years. “I have had, and do have family, friends, and people I work with of course who are gay…and you are treasured people to me.”

The tall, frail Christoffersen stood in the center of the group. She appeared to be shaking during her prepared remarks which lasted about 3 minutes. Two young female family members flanked her to prevent her from fainting, according to a restaurant employee. At several points during her speech, Christoffersen simply became too emotional to continue.

El Coyote has become the latest casualty in the local outburst against the passage of Proposition 8, an anti-marriage amendment [sic] to the California State Constitution. Dozens of e-mails and websites, including the popular online local guide, Yelp.com, have urged boycotting the legendary cafe in recent days.

Christoffersen, who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, insisted that her donation was personal, and reflected her religious faith.

“I’ve been a member of the Mormon Church all my life,” she said. “This was a personal donation. In like fashion, any employee here would be free to donate, worship or support anything of their personal choosing.”

Freedom, the Golden Rule, conscience–none of it is good enough for the commissars.

John at Article 6 Blog sees the rise in violent, now criminal behavior by the anti-Prop 8 crowd.

First they set fire to a copy of The Book of Mormon on the church steps and now they are sending white powder (can you say “anthrax”?) envelopes to LDS temples. Of course, now that things have advanced from merely civilly disobedient to downright criminal, these acts are plausibly deniable – it has yet to be established with certainty that they are response to the Prop 8 vote, but suspicions may reasonably run very strong.

Meanwhile, creedal services are being disrupted, but as yet, have avoided death threats. I remain both fascinated and repulsed by the disproportionate level of this vile that is being aimed at the LDS, and dismayed that the voices of the traditional church expressing solidarity are being left unheeded in the media.

Lowell chimes in that ProtectMarriage.com will be holding a press conference today at noon that will contain “some remarkable statements” and advises all of us to pay close attention to the news over the weekend.

I’m sure there are someones out there that would like to get the our President-elect to weigh in on this, to denounce the acts of domestic terrorism that are now taking place by the tantrum-throwing group of the electorate that won’t accept their loss at the polls. But now that unrepentant-domestic-terrorist Bill Ayers has acknowledged that he and ol’ Barry ‘O’ are “family friends”, don’t count on it!

I say that we find out who contributed to Prop-8 and give them our business. As for the violent protesters turned terrorists, I like one of Michelle’s commenter’s advice:

Clean, lock and load.

Iowahawk: “I Am Bill” (Bill Ayers, That Is) — Heh!

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Iowahawk got a bit of flack for his thoughtful, and for once serious, post on Joe the Plumber. So, in a nod to the coming Fairness Doctrine if the Obamessiah should triumph next week he makes amends and does a courtesy tribute to the radical, unrepentant-domestic-terrorist and Obama buddy Bill Ayers titled I AM BILL“. Here’s a taste:

I AM BILL. I love traveling the highways and byways of this great, puke-inducing country we call America, visiting its police stations and ROTC buildings and legislative halls. And when the pigs finally catch up with me and dad hires a legal team to get me off on a technicality, it lets me know that yes, Bill, you can go home again.

I AM BILL. I may have started small. But I still have a crazy plan that one day I will make it big and finally plunge this danged country of ours into a bloody cataclysmic race war. And if you think you can stand in the way of my dream, or escape my escape-proof reeducation death camps, well, then you don’t know me.

I AM BILL. I’m still married my to my college sweetheart, and we believe in family values. Especially Manson Family values. After all these years she still hands me my lunchbox at the door every morning, which she has packed with a chocolate kiss and a tiny pinch of Semtex from her hope chest. I can’t imagine where I’d be without this woman and her law school salary. Because no matter what I accomplish in this world, this beautiful, insane bitch will always be the real psychopath in the house.

Ya just gotta read it all!

[H/t: The Anchoress]

Intolerant. Un-inclusive. Projecting. And they’ll never grow up.

These are not the liberals I grew up with. The liberals I grew up with respected the opinions of others. They welcomed dissent. They believed utterly in the Bill of Rights, particularly the first amendment; free-speech for everyone.

No, Obama, these are not the liberals I knew.
