Canadian Doctors Wake Up From Long Sleep — Decide Private Option IS Important!
Doctors in Canada have taken a looooooong look at their crumbling health care system and are sounding the alarm that it needs to CHANGE.
The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country’s health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it.
Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country – who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting – recognize that changes must be made.
“We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize,” Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.
“We know that there must be change,” she said. “We’re all running flat out, we’re all just trying to stay ahead of the immediate day-to-day demands.”
The pitch for change at the conference is to start with a presentation from Dr. Robert Ouellet, the current president of the CMA, who has said there’s a critical need to make Canada’s health-care system patient-centred. He will present details from his fact-finding trip to Europe in January, where he met with health groups in England, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands and France.
His thoughts on the issue are already clear. Ouellet has been saying since his return that “a health-care revolution has passed us by,” that it’s possible to make wait lists disappear while maintaining universal coverage and “that competition should be welcomed, not feared.”
In other words, Ouellet believes there could be a role for private health-care delivery within the public system.
Of course, for good ol’ Nanny Nancy Pelosi and her hard-core lefties in the House, the Canadian way is still THE WAY as far as they are concerned.
House Democratic officials say a public option will remain in their version of a health reform bill, even now that the White House has acknowledged it may be dropped later.
“This is just for the Senate,” a House leadership official said about the administration’s concession on a public option. “There is no way it passes the House the first time around without a public option.
“The liberals (around 100+) won’t allow it. It if comes back from conference committee without public option and there is the right pitch that it is this or nothing, then it may pass the House.”
Leaders now say the House will put off a vote on health reform until the end of September — to provide a cooling-off period from the raucous town meetings and to give strategists a better sense of where the Senate is headed.
Former DNC Chairman Howard Dean concurs, chiding the White House for paying attention to reality and backing down from the PUBLIC OPTION.
Former Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean, a leading figure in the liberal wing of his party, said Monday he doubts there can be meaningful health care reform without a direct government role.
Dean urged the Obama administration to stand by statements made early on in the debate in which it steadfastly insisted that such a public option was indispensable to genuine change, saying that Medicare and the Veterans Administration are “two very good programs that have been around for a long time.”
Yeah, and Medicare is going broke, fast, and will even faster if they gut Medicare funding to pay for Obamacare — which is in their plan. For seniors, it’ll be take the pain pill, or the death pills — cause there just won’t be enough cash to go around and pay for their treatment.
Take that old timer!
As far as the Obama administration backing off the PUBLIC OPTION part of health care reform, Michelle Malkin is not convinced. In fact, she thinks those statements made over the weekend were more trial balloon than white flag.
I’m not buying the hype. Are you?
The real Obama is a declared proponent of single-payer and universal health care Trojan Horses. All else is political theater.
Late Sunday, the health care czar’s office said Sebelius “misspoke.”
It’s not a misstatement. It’s not a surrender flag. It’s a trial balloon to measure the potential nutroots backlash versus the potential Senate pick-ups.
Besides, the public option provision can always be stuffed back in via a 3am manager’s amendment or during the House/Senate conference to reconcile each chamber’s Obamacare bills.
Over at the New York Post Kyle Smith elaborates on the real meaning of Obama himself comparing his beloved PUBLIC OPTON to the U.S. Post Office.
Keep in mind that all the Post Office does is deliver mail, not babies, and that under ObamaCare you will be cooling your heels as you await surgery, not stamps. William Henderson, the US postmaster general from 1998 to 2001, wrote upon leaving that “what the Postal Service needs now is nothing short of privatization.”
Leave aside the shocking off-handedness with which the president promised to put tens of millions of Americans in a system that he himself compared to the one that “is always having problems.” The US Postal Service is characterized by monopoly, long waits, indifferent treatment of customers, dwindling services, billions in losses and expert opinion that it would work better as a private firm — exactly the list of flaws critics cite about ObamaCare.
And exactly the list of flaws that the “incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association” cites about the Canadian health care system — the very system that Obama and his lefty pals in the House and Senate want to force all of US into — not them, of course, but all of you and me.
Elections have consequences — 2010 can’t come soon enough . . .
