I look everywhere for AMerican products but they are hard to come by these days.

The most amazing thing now is this "Cash for Clunkers". The government is trying to boost GM and Ford but the people who get the money for the Clunkers are turning around and buying Foreign Cars.

Obama, do you see what is going on? Open your eyes because all you are doing is giving our money to different country's, AGAIN!!!

hey Dale,
Hope all's well.

Another dimension to buying American is quality. A lot of stuff labeled as 'made in USA' is actually made in maquilladora factories in Mexico just across the border. All the parts get made there and only final assembly and a final QC is made in El Norte...after which is goes out listed as American made.

And even in stuff actually made in America, the ever pell mell quest for the quarterly bottom line and planned obsolescence can result in crappy quality.

That's how the Japanese became such a manufacturing powerhouse, BTW. They produced goods that appealed to American consumers that were not only lower in price but superior in QUALITY. The country's basic psychology supports a high work ethic and pride in craftsmanship, but eventually Japan become too expensive so stuff was farmed out to Vietnam, China and Indonesia..

I actually think Americans would pay a reasonable amount more for quality if they were assured it actually was quality. And if we hadn't allowed our manufacturing sector to be outsourced by the Angry Left, corpo-weasels and the enviro-Nazis, there would be enough decent paying blue collar jobs so that they would be able to afford to.

OK, rant over...

Regards,
