Anti Prop-8 Activists Take No Prisioners — No Film At Eleven
OK, let’s get serious here. For weeks we’ve been telling you about the poor manager of the El Coyote Cafe in Hollywood, Margie Christoffersen, who made the “horrific mistake” of supporting CA Prop 8, the initiative to restore the traditional meaning of marriage as between a man and a woman. Christoffersen, who is a devout Mormon, gave a measly $100 to the campaign. For her sin, she was accosted by a group of LGBT activists inside the restaurant who demanded that she apologize for making the donation, which she did. However, she refused to say that she had changed her mind on the merits of Prop 8, so they harassed her and boycotted the cafe until poor Margie left her job — which she had held for 17 plus years. Evidently, even that isn’t enough for these Anti-Prop 8 zealots. [H/t: Michelle Malkin]
The writer of that article, and also the LA Times editorial board were against Prop 8, which passed with over 52% majority vote this last Nov. 4th. The Anti-Prop 8 crowd has been up in arms ever since, outing those they find on public-access lists that supported Prop 8 with donations. They couldn’t win the debate, so now they are using coercion and bullying to stifle those who supported traditional marriage. The Mormons are taking an especially big hit as they seem to be easy targets, even though Evangelical and Catholic groups were also strong supporters. John at Article 6 Blog writes this:
Protests are, in and of themselves, on the edge of violence. Further, actual violence has been far from isolated. Vandalism was fairly widespread, traffic was disrupted, people have lost their jobs, and many active in the YES campaign received threatening phone calls or direct personal threats. So maybe it was not the Watts Riots or the post-RodneyKing riots, but it was definitively a mob-based effort to enforce its will with inherent threats of violence at those extreme levels. This is a bit like arguing that because I only beat someone up, it’s not that big a deal when compared to Charles Manson.
This letter to the editor in today’s LAT is representative of these out-of-control folks:
It would be laudable if citizens could donate to a cause without intimidation, but this has never been the case.
Your editorial mentions the plight of Scott Eckern, late of the California Musical Theatre in Sacramento, who was forced to resign as a result of his donating to Proposition 8. You ask: What if the shoe were on the other foot and he were targeted because he was gay?
Well, the shoe has been on the other foot for ages now — people lose their jobs, and sometimes their lives, because they happen to be gay. That’s hardly news. What is news is that gays are flexing their political muscle.
Because political donations are a matter of public record, anyone who contributes to a cause should be prepared to weather the possible consequences. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Unintended results can spur people to think. Who knows? Maybe next time they’ll reconsider before they contribute.

Gotta love the Left — only their opinion matters. Only their way is the correct way.

Oh, please. Margie Christoffersen is not a victim here. She voted her conscience on Nov. 4, and now her customers are voting theirs. That’s what happens when you mix capitalism and democracy, kids.

Nope — That’s what happens when you mix narcissism and terror tactics. Those that are causing Margie Christoffersen such pain and turmoil should be ashamed — a, but there lies the rub. They don’t have the capacity to feel shame.
Change the millenniums old meaning of marriage just so some folks can “feel” a bit better — yeah, that’s the ticket.
Quick — Someone call the waaaaaaaaambulance!

The left and gays always accuse right and Christians of being intolerant. The left and gays are more intolerant than anyone. If you don’t agree with their side, they set out to destroy you.

There are homeless people starving in this country and the mormons spent 20 mill against prop 8? Wow. I’m not pro gay but I am pro rights and something is seriously screwed up here. The country is going broke meanwhile. Hello. Who has the right to say who someone else sleeps with anyway? This is America, land of the free. Remember?

How about the monazis, they write their own history and won’t allow any other or dissent – and they get away with it because the civilized set allow the thugs to rule. Gaynazis = America’s new gangs and gangstas. Donations are now be made in camo and have doubled and tripled to answer al gayda.

Gotta luv that the pro rights gangstas dont think that religious rights count (unless you are gaynazi hating muslim) – Darwood show s the job that the gaynazis and liberals are doing on the witless and weenies.
Lets make gaynazis a protected minority and then my son and I will get to be a quota and be equal with obama’s crowd

Darwood,
You mentioned that Mormons contributed 20 mil to the yes on 8 campaign hinting that they spend their money on political campaigns rather then feeding the poor. When in fact most Mormon contribute 10% of their earnings to one of the most efficient welfare programs in the country. The Church owns and operates its own canneries and storehouses that supplies people in need essentials. They also operate thift stores where they are able to give job training to those who need it. The Church gives millions of dollars in aid to areas hit hard by disasters– whether or not mormons are there.

Obviously he doesn’t get it and it’s obvious that he won’t.
Most people predisposed to myopia are like that.
What I do find interesting is that Oklahoma turned out at least one person who can think and write in complete sentences. Being an optimist I’ll take that as today’s good thought.

I’ll take any compliment, even a back-handed one. Myopic is not being able to understand when someone resists making cultural changes that have withstood centuries and that have been highly beneficial to mankind.
I have no problem with the concept of “civil unions” or “domestic partnerships” and feel that they should bestow identical benefits, and responsibilities, to those that engage in them. Just don’t insist that you call it a “marriage”, as that term has distinct meaning.
Of course, if your side just wants to degrade the culture another notch, making “marriage” meaningless is a fine place to start.
I’m just sayin’ — know what I’m sayin’?

Thanks for insinuating that ‘my side’ is degrading the culture or denigrating marriage but really, let’s give credit where credit is due. It seems to me that heterosexuals are doing a fine, outstanding job of diminishing the relevance of marriage as a sacred, culturally inviolable institution.
Certainly it’s hard to argue that with the spiraling numbers of divorce, infidelity, sexual assault and predation that proponents of same sex unions are the fulcrum on which these numbers are based. So instead of arguing the point(s) that marriage as an institution is already in decline and becoming increasingly irrelevant, homosexuals and their allies are tagged with being not only amoral (or worse) but hell bent on destroying the heterosexually dominant cultural paradigm.
Please.
That line of reasoning is not unlike a broken urn. It holds only emptiness.
16 December 2008 | 'Okie' Said:
I think that it says much about your state of mind that you and “your side” are hell-bent on getting the opportunity to enter into an institution that you believe “is already in decline and becoming increasingly irrelevant”. What’s the point?
The point is to make it totally irrelevant to all. On Nov. 4th, we had the votes. Next time, work harder, donate more, convince more and get out the vote better.
And while you’re at it, stop trying to advance your “progressive” social agenda via judicial fiat. That just makes us increasingly PO’d.
For now, where’s that waaaaaaaaaambulance?
