An Overheard Barber Chair Conversation

I was getting the ol’ mane whacked earlier the other at my local barbershop here in Santa Monica. A big guy came in, sat in the next chair and started talking with his barber. After describing his weekend up in Big Sur he talked a bit about working with some folks at the library that was built to honor his father, a writer. The barber asked him which writer.

Henry Miller.”

Then, they shifted gears and began talking about the prior’s day of surfing Lower Trestles down at San Onofre. I was going to tell the wife about this but just as I started to I blanked on the name of the writer.

I ran across the barber yesterday on the AM dog walk and asked him about it again. He said that he had been cutting the guy’s hair for over 6 years and that was the first time it had come up that his dad was Henry Miller.

You just never know who you might be sittin’ next to in this world — you never know . . .
