The Philosophy of Entitlement — Lefties Gone Wild!

Reading “The ProtectMarriage/Proposition 8 Coalition: A Solidarity Report” over at Article 6 Blog, where Lowell and John outline the continuing attacks on Mormons from the Anti-Prop 8 crowd here in CA and now in other states as well, I found a link to Andrew Sullivan‘s post that intimates that there was a long-developing conspiracy between Catholics, Evangelicals and Mormons to thwart gay marriage laws from being passed. John reacts:

The man has completely left reality – as quite likely have most the Prop 8 protesters. I don’t think Evangelicals and Mormons could launch a conspiracy to have lunch! And the implication that the Mormons played Evangelicals on this issue. Oh please! Mormons are a little better organized than we are, but that they somehow manipulated us to participate is an idea that can only be born in the mind of someone that has lost touch with reality. It belies no understanding of anything about Mormons, or Evangelicals, or frankly, about the church he claims as his own.

When I read things like this, I react mostly with pity. That such thoughts are being used to incite vandalism, threats, and near violence goes a long way to negate that pity, but still….

After getting through that I decided to see what ol’ Andrew was up to in his most current Daily Dish and ended up here: “That Old House”. In it, Sullivan likens growing up gay in the US with, well, let’s let him tell it:

Growing up gay in a largely straight world, and being told that you can have your legal contracts for your relationship if you’re lucky, or live with domestic partnerships if you’re really lucky, is a bit like growing up in a big, old house. You’re allowed to live there – in fact, you were born there and grew up there – but certain rooms are off-limits.

After describing the longing and heartbreak of never being able to go into that room and finally on one grand day sneaking in and rifling through the parent’s personal belongings he discovers:

You find the legal papers, the deed, that proves that they own the house. And you don’t. However long you live, whatever you do, however you conduct yourself, this house will never be yours. You can live in it – with their permission, and under their authority. It is your home, because where else were you born and where else would you live – but only to rent, never to own. It is your family, but you are always kept one critical step away from being fully part of it. There is one fine line you will never be allowed to cross.

Folks, Andrew is doing us a little favor here. He’s presented in a nutshell what’s wrong with the current state of Liberalism, with the Left as we have come to know it and as we have voted to govern us. Being born makes one entitled to whatever those that bore us have.

IE, being born in the U.S. means that the U.S. owes them — EVERYTHING!

President-elect Barack Obama has promised everyone EVERYTHING that they can possibly imagine — as long as their imaginings run Leftish, natch. Good luck delivering on that promise, Barry.

Andrew, grow up and buy your own damn house! ;-) Metaphorically, of course . . .
