LA Times Refuses To Release The Obama/Khalidi Video
The Los Angeles Times is sitting on a video that they admit “shows Barack Obama praising Palestinian activist Rashid Khalidi at a 2003 banquet.” They have had this video in their possession for over 6-months. The LAT even ran a story today about the McCain campaign demanding that the video be released to public view, which they again refused to do.
John McCain’s presidential campaign Tuesday accused the Los Angeles Times of “intentionally suppressing” a videotape it obtained of a 2003 banquet where then-state Sen. Barack Obama spoke of his friendship with Rashid Khalidi, a leading Palestinian scholar and activist.
The Times first reported on the videotape in an April 2008 story about Obama’s ties with Palestinians and Jews as he navigated the politics of Chicago. The report included a detailed description of the tape, but the newspaper did not make the video public.
The McCain campaign was then quoted as saying:
“A major news organization is intentionally suppressing information that could provide a clearer link between Barack Obama and Rashid Khalidi,” said McCain campaign spokesman Michael Goldfarb. ” . . . The election is one week away, and it’s unfortunate that the press so obviously favors Barack Obama that this campaign must publicly request that the Los Angeles Times do its job — make information public.”
Nope! They aren’t a gonna do it! Why?
“The Los Angeles Times did not publish the videotape because it was provided to us by a confidential source who did so on the condition that we not release it,” said the newspaper’s editor, Russ Stanton. “The Times keeps its promises to sources.”
So, they can look at it, and write all about it, but nada, no way Jose, they can’t let it be showed to John Q. Public. The only response to that is: WHAT’S ON THIS VIDEO THAT IS SO DAMAGING TO BARACK OBAMA THAT HIS SOCAL LACKIES AT THE LAT ARE HIDING BEHIND AN UNNAMED SOURCE THAT THEY MADE “PROMISES” TO?
If I were a Jew that was at all concerned with the future of Israel I’d be beyond pissed at the LAT for refusing to let this video be shown. If there’s nothing on it that would be bad for Barack Obama, they would figure out a way to do it. The LAT is hemorrhaging readers and advertisers, it’s barely there on most days. Maybe these type of actions explain why.
Over at American Thinker they are asking these questions:
No! On second thought — Make that Hell NO!
[Update: A link from Ace goes to this post, which shows two supposed quotes from the tape that were sent to him by an unnamed source that has been spot on in the past -- take them for what they're worth.]
