Global Cooling Chart

Just this last August an event occurred that hadn’t in the last 95 years — there was no sunspot activity during the entire month span of time — none, Nada, ZERO. So what, Okie — like, should I care? Only if you understand the apparent relationship between sun activity and our planet’s climate. Lorne Gunter writing in Canada’s National Post puts it together for us:

In early September, I began noticing a string of news stories about scientists rejecting the orthodoxy on global warming. Actually, it was more like a string of guest columns and long letters to the editor since it is hard for skeptical scientists to get published in the cabal of climate journals now controlled by the Great Sanhedrin of the environmental movement.

Still, the number of climate change skeptics is growing rapidly. Because a funny thing is happening to global temperatures — they’re going down, not up.

Get that? A real, measurable downward trend in global temperatures is happening but the scientific community that has so heavily invested in the concept of man-caused global warming isn’t allowing any dissent heresy to be presented in its august journals. Gunter goes on to show that cooling trend being manifested this year in Brazil, and examines its causes. He then presents Craig Loehle‘s computer modeling work that shows the reality of what is called the Medieval Warm Period, a time about 1,000 years ago when the planet’s temperatures were warmer than they are now. Also, as the chart above shows, since 2000 we have been getting cooler.

Don Easterbrook, a geologist at Western Washington University, says, “It’s practically a slam dunk that we are in for about 30 years of global cooling,” as the sun enters a particularly inactive phase. His examination of warming and cooling trends over the past four centuries shows an “almost exact correlation” between climate fluctuations and solar energy received on Earth, while showing almost “no correlation at all with CO2.”

So, why are more and more global warming doubters surfacing lately? Gunter has an explanation for that, too so I’ll give him the last word.

It may be that more global warming doubters are surfacing because there just isn’t any global warming.

Excellent article, Okie. This environmental chemist reached the same conclusion years ago, that there is no significant warming. I never did support the Al Gore induced global warming alarmist nonsense.

On the bright side of things, a gallon of regular unleaded is as low as $2.13 gallon here in Oklahoma City this morning. Prices have been steadily dropping for a month or two. I think we will drop below the $2 mark in a few days. I see they have dropped somewhat elsewhere, but we Okies have it really good right now.

Beware, if Obama wins the election it will go to $7.00/gallon.
