Biden/Palin Debate Moderator Biased? Say It Ain’t So, Joe . . .
Ah, but of course — it is! Gwen Ifill, PBS host and author of an upcoming book on Barack Obama scheduled for publication on Inauguration Day, “Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama”, will be the debate moderator tomorrow night. Put aside if you can that Ms. Ifill did a puff piece on the Obamas for Essence magazine, with as Michelle Malkin puts it, “Kennedyesque” pictures of big “O”, Michelle and the kiddies. Put aside her apparent disgust and contempt for Palin she showed during her “critique” of Palin’s GOP Convention acceptance speech as shown in this clip:
Just consider what her conflict of self interest might be for purely economic reasons. Ed Morrissey writes:
Let’s say for the sake of argument that Ifill doesn’t show any particular bias in this book towards Obama, even though Michelle documents both an Essence flack job and complaints about her coverage of the Republican convention that make her bias clear. Instead, let’s just focus on the financial interest Ifill has in an Obama victory in five weeks. If Obama loses, how will her book sell? Not nearly as well as if Obama wins, and everyone knows that.
Why didn’t the McCain campaign complain during the pre-debate wranglings? The Campaign says it didn’t know about the book, while others think it might be because the Campaign didn’t want to be accused of playing the “race card” if they made a big fuss over Ifill, she’s black by the way. Malkin comments on that one:
Like Obama, Ifill, who is black, is quick to play the race card at the first sign of criticism. In an interview with the Washington Post a few weeks ago, she carped: “[N]o one’s ever assumed a white reporter can’t cover a white candidate.”
It’s not the color of your skin, sweetie. It’s the color of your politics. Perhaps Ifill will be able to conceal it this week. But if the “stunning” “Breakthrough” she’s rooting for comes to pass on January 20, 2009, nobody will be fooled.
Tomorrow night is gonna be wild! Even the LA Times today says, “Underestimate Palin at your own risk, former rivals say”, a very real warning to Joe Biden and his handlers. They quote Halcro and Knowles, her defeated Alaskan competition from the Governor’s race:
“When you try to prove she doesn’t know anything, you lose, because audiences are enraptured by her,” Halcro said. “And her biting comments give you a sense of how competitive she is. Anybody who doesn’t take her seriously does so at their peril.”
Okie says, “YOU GO GIRL!!!!”
