“You Can Put Lipstick On A Pig, It’s Still A Pig” — Did Obama Mean What The Crowd Thought He Meant?

Ya know, I wasn’t even gonna go here because I thought that about everything possible to say or rant about yesterday’s Obama gaffe of using the lipstick on a pig analogy had been said or ranted. But, true to form, the nutty Dems just can’t Move On now, can they? Today, good ol’ Barack Obama is doing his best Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! and telling the suddenly-perceived press, “Enough!” Boy, is Barry thin-skinned, or what?

“See, it would be funny, but the news media decided that would be the lead story yesterday. This happens every election cycle. Every four years, this is what we do. This is what they want to spend two of the last 55 days talking about…Enough!” he said.

Obama called the attacks “lies, outrage and swift boat politics.”

“These are serious times and they call for a serious debate…spare me all the phony outrage. Spare me all the phony talk about change,” he said.

Earth to Barry — that outrage you are perceiving from the independent and center-right and right women of America isn’t phony. Even with giving you the benefit of the doubt about yesterday’s remark, as soon as that line left your lips and the crowd reacted the way it did — if you were smart, if you were at all intuitive — you would have realized what they thought you meant and either done an about face, or made it right on the spot. You did neither. You’re now getting punked for it, big time.

Michelle Malkin weighs in:

There’s lots of debate here in the comments thread and across the blogosphere about whether the McCain camp is overreacting, whether Obama should get the benefit of the doubt for using a common old metaphor at the wrong place and time, etc., etc.

Was he being malicious? Probably not. But it’s yet another in a long line of rhetorical gaffes that demonstrate his ineptitude.

Or, as one commenter below summed it up succinctly: “The guy’s a jerk.”

The Anchoress puts in her two cents and also has a couple of polls:

WAIT! Victor Davis Hanson wonders if McCain was meant to be the “stinky old fish…”. Hmmmm…considering that, I am more inclined to think the “lipstick on a pig” remark, and the “old fish” references were planned. Once is a slip. Twice? Now, that sounds calculated.

And, Hugh Hewitt brings it all into crystal clear focus:

Either Obama’s dim as can be, or he is angry at having been thrown backwards week after week. When Obama denies having targeted Palin, keep in mind that everyone instantly made the connection. Is Obama really that clueless? An angry outburst does less damage than his pleading he didn’t mean it that way. Remember the raised finger?

Keep in mind as well that Obama has been telling us his genius at running his campaign is evidence of his fitness to be president. Some genius. We are watching a crack-up under pressure. His Chicago handlers might be able to put the wheels back on, but we now have a glimpse of “glass jaw” Obama in a crisis.

The big question for Obama is why do you keep comparing yourself with the number-two on the GOP ticket. Her experience only makes you look weaker and totally ill prepared to be the Commander in Chief. Best you just try and make the case that your 143 days in the Senate makes you the equal or the better of Senator John McCain’s long record of service to country and legislative achievement.

Another thing, Barry — your campaign staff calling McCain’s “honor” into question won’t be winning you any votes either, except for the nutter anti-military fringe — which you pretty much have covered anyway. Just more stumbles in a downward-spiraling effort to appeal to the masses. You guys are looking like folks strolling through a kennel barefoot. Yep — You know what that stuff is that keeps squishing between your toes!

It’s starting to smell pretty rank over there in Obama land, oh, ya betcha!
