[Welcome Hugh Hewitt visitors. Lots more about McCain and Palin Derangement Syndrome here, and here.]

[H/t: Hugh Hewitt] Well, this is disconcerting, but ultimately enlightening! From Haaretz:

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was quoted Monday as telling senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran.

In the unsourced report, Army Radio also quoted Biden as saying that he opposed “opening a additional military and diplomatic front.”

Biden, chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has long been considered strongly pro-Israel. His nomination as Barack Obama’s running mate had been expected to shore up the Democrats’ strength with U.S. Jewish voters.

Army Radio said Israeli officials expressed “amazement” over the remarks attributed to him.

“Israel will have to reconcile itself with the nuclearization of Iran,” Army Radio quoted Biden as telling the unnamed officials.

“It’s doubtful if the economic sanctions will be effective, and I am against opening an additional military and diplomatic front.”

Even ol’ Slow Joe Biden wouldn’t come up with a statement like that to the Israelis unless it was going to be the position of an Obama/Biden administration. Note that last statement — not only is he against a military front to blunt the Iranians’ quest for nukes, but he’s against any additional diplomatic front as well. With the Obama mantra of diplomacy first and foremost, what on Earth does that statement mean? It’s nuts!

Unless, what a potential Obama/Biden administration really wants is to force President Bush and the Israelis to take care of this inconvenient little situation before the Great Chosen One were to take office in January. Might be a bit sticky with the anti-war Left to have to forcefully deal with Iran right off the bat.

[Update: Now it gets interesting. The Haaretz article has been updated with a dissent by Senator Biden's press secretary David Wade. Let's hope that the unnamed source comes forward.]
