2008 — The Beginning of the End of the Climate Change Hoax?
[h/t: Ace, who thinks that this year might be the "tipping point" for when the climate change hoax begins to unravel. From his lips . . . ]
Readers of this blog know that this ol’ Okie thinks that Anthropogenic Climate Change is a lot of, uh, let’s just call it hooey! The Global Warming Alarmists and the Climate Change Conspirators and the Liberal Progressive politicians all over the world, who are licking their chops over the potential to turn all this Climate Change mania into massive amounts of new TAX revenues, can’t be bothered with inconvenient ‘facts’. Nope, not them. No Joe Fridays in the whole lot o’ em. But, every so often someone on that side of unreality decides to take a second look and realizes that to continue on in a wrong direction is not getting anywhere — in fact, getting nowhere fast.
Such a soul is Australian David Evans, self described as “the rocket scientist who wrote the carbon accounting model (FullCAM) that measures Australia’s compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, in the land use change and forestry sector.” With his new position on Climate Change, Evans might just be wise to watch his back.
In today’s The Australian, Evans makes the case that although there has been a global warming trend, it ended in 2001. Since then we have been cooling and are now back to the temps of 1980. He is convinced that carbon has had only a minor efffect, if any, toward the pre-2001 period of warming:
When I started that job in 1999 the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty good: CO2 is a greenhouse gas, the old ice core data, no other suspects.
The evidence was not conclusive, but why wait until we were certain when it appeared we needed to act quickly? Soon government and the scientific community were working together and lots of science research jobs were created. We scientists had political support, the ear of government, big budgets, and we felt fairly important and useful (well, I did anyway). It was great. We were working to save the planet.
But since 1999 new evidence has seriously weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause of global warming, and by 2007 the evidence was pretty conclusive that carbon played only a minor role and was not the main cause of the recent global warming. As Lord Keynes famously said, “When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?”
Why did he change his mind? Well, he’s got a list.
- The greenhouse signature is missing. We have been looking and measuring for years, and cannot find it.
- There is no evidence to support the idea that carbon emissions cause significant global warming. None.
- he satellites that measure the world’s temperature all say that the warming trend ended in 2001, and that the temperature has dropped about 0.6C in the past year (to the temperature of 1980).
- The new ice cores show that in the past six global warmings over the past half a million years, the temperature rises occurred on average 800 years before the accompanying rise in atmospheric carbon.
Regarding that #4, I’ve previously written it’s pretty darned difficult to be both a cause and an effect, especially when the “cause” FOLLOWS the “effect” by 800 year! So, how have we found ourselves in this wretched mess, where our politicians are all tripping over their Johnsons to jump on the man-caused climate change bandwagon? Why are the current leaders of Australia looking like they’re going to risk destroying their economy to reduce Australia’s minuscule contribution to the world’s Carbon Footprint? Why is our own Governator out beating the weeds to do that same thing to Caleeeeforneea? Gee, their heads are so firmly embedded in their collective wazoos that you might as well be asking them why don’t chickens have lips? However, Evans has a clue as to how this madness had been propagated; Outright filthy lies sleight of hand.
So far that debate has just consisted of a simple sleight of hand: show evidence of global warming, and while the audience is stunned at the implications, simply assert that it is due to carbon emissions.
In the minds of the audience, the evidence that global warming has occurred becomes conflated with the alleged cause, and the audience hasn’t noticed that the cause was merely asserted, not proved.
If there really was any evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming, don’t you think we would have heard all about it ad nauseam by now?
No, all we’ve heard is that the science is settled — that those scientists that disagree are heretics on a grand, even criminal scale — that to disagree with the Global Warming Hysterics is tantamount to being clinically suicidal. At the very least, to disagree with the Holy Order of the Climate Change Alarmists and their high priest, ol’ big Al Gore shows that one is totally insignificant — not sufficiently deferential to Mother Gaia — in their eyes, such a one is less than scum. But, as Evans notes, truth will out — if one’s mind is at all open to it.
The world has spent $50 billion on global warming since 1990, and we have not found any actual evidence that carbon emissions cause global warming. Evidence consists of observations made by someone at some time that supports the idea that carbon emissions cause global warming. Computer models and theoretical calculations are not evidence, they are just theory.
He goes on to warn the Australian public that they should not blindly follow leaders that ignore facts in evidence and continue on headstrong towards economic disaster. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, BARACK — any o’ you guys listenin’ to any o’ this? . . . ? . . . Not a chance in Hades — see TAX comment above.
BTW — Dr. David Evans was a consultant to the Australian Greenhouse Office from 1999 to 2005. He used to be a warming alarmist, now he’s not.
Me thinks he knows of what he speaks. I sure hope that Ace is right . . .
