Photogs givin’ Barack that Obamessiah glow!
Ayers, Dohrn, Pfleger, Rezko, and Wright — what’s a beleaguered Obamessiah to do? Well, last Saturday he, as See Dubya likes to put it, threw his entire church, So. side Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, under the bus! Yep, ol’ Barack finally got his fill o’ God Damnin’ o’ America and white radical Catholic priests that sound black mocking his fellow Senator and presidential primary opponent. Maybe his wife will again be proud of something cause it’s only taken 20 years of listening to this crap for him to grow some hair and say enough is enough.

But hey, we all know that wasn’t the reason he left. If the political pressure wasn’t so great to disavow fellowship with those folks, he’d be right in there next Sunday, or the first one his campaign schedule would allow, all a clapin’ and sayin’ Amen to the bile and vile spewing out from that pulpit. I don’t think this is his Saul on the way to Damascus moment — no scales have fallen from his eyes. All this does is once again beg the question, “What does this guy really believe?”

He’s not tellin’ us much. All platitudes and promises and not much substance. When he does get kinda specific, it’s downright scary. Like gutting the military and turning tail in Iraq. On that last one, even the liberal Washington Post is warning Obama to rethink his position in light of the realities on the ground. [h/t: Hugh Hewitt]

Iraq passed a turning point last fall when the U.S. counterinsurgency campaign launched in early 2007 produced a dramatic drop in violence and quelled the incipient sectarian war between Sunnis and Shiites. Now, another tipping point may be near, one that sees the Iraqi government and army restoring order in almost all of the country, dispersing both rival militias and the Iranian-trained “special groups” that have used them as cover to wage war against Americans. It is — of course — too early to celebrate; though now in disarray, the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr could still regroup, and Iran will almost certainly seek to stir up new violence before the U.S. and Iraqi elections this fall. Still, the rapidly improving conditions should allow U.S. commanders to make some welcome adjustments — and it ought to mandate an already-overdue rethinking by the “this-war-is-lost” caucus in Washington, including Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

When Mr. Obama floated his strategy for Iraq last year, the United States appeared doomed to defeat. Now he needs a plan for success.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for Barack Obama’s “plan for success” in Iraq — Okie doesn’t think you’d look all that good in blue.
