Navy Seal Michael A. MooreYesterday, Dennis Prager and his on-air producer were discussing the awarding of the Medal of Honor to the deceased Navy SEAL, SO2 Michael A. Monsoor, and each acknowledged wondering if, under the same circumstances, they would have chosen the path that Monsoor chose; Which was to throw himself onto a live grenade to save his fellow SEALs. As I had read the story of Monsoor’s bravery and sacrifice in the LAT a bit earlier, I had asked myself the same question, and had come to the same answer Dennis and Co. stated on the show; I don’t know . . .

Read about Monsoor, the accounts of the events surrounding his death, and the awarding of only the third Medal of Honor bestowed for bravery in the Iraq war. There were calls from the community at the time Monsoor died for more recognition for SEALs lost in combat. About time, I’m sure many are thinking!

Think about it:

Monsoor, in a split second had to make the most momentous decision of his life. He had three options. 1) Freeze in the face of danger and do nothing, which meant all four SEALs in the room would die, 2) Take the open avenue of escape saving his own life, 3) fall on the grenade and possibly save his fellow SEALs.

He knew that he could save himself . . .

He knew that doing that would cost the lives of the others . . .

He knew that he could save his brethren . . .

He knew that in doing so he would suffer unimaginable pain . . .

He knew that it would cost him his life . . .

He chose to sacrifice himself to save the lives of others . . .

We just celebrated the day of resurrection for the One that died so that all might live. Navy SEAL, SO2 Michael A. Monsoor is in very good company indeed.
