This Week’s Council Winners

Well, the Watcher’s Council has spoken and here are the winning entries or this week. On the Council side, my ol’ buddy Laer at Cheet Seeking Missiles tops it out with a full vote advantage for Charting a New Course In Iraq Messaging, wherein he takes the Dem-witted Senate majority to task for their constant bleetings of “Retreat! Retreat!” — even though there is strong evidence that the surge is working and that we are winning in Iraq.
The Dems are condemned to continue struggling in their messaging conundrum, because there really is no way to cover the concept of “surrender” with cleverly crafted words. It can’t be done without blaming the troops, shaming America or giving the superior position to the Islamists.
There’s an easier message of course: Stay the course, face the enemy, be Americans and win.
Second place Council post was Prophets in a Freudian Age by Bookworm Room, which asks and answers the question, “Would Jesus be considered insane in today’s psychologically driven world?”, along with other questions in the same vein.
Now, if Jesus were standing on a street corner in this psychiatric age, we also would have listened to him, nodded profoundly to each other, and said “delusional.” We would have been dismayed by his hearing voices (only crazy people not only talk to God, but hear God talking back), but we would not have been frightened by his visions. They are humane and generous (which is why it was so bizarre when MSM types were both horrified and snide about the fact that Bush, in 2000, said Jesus was his favorite philosopher). Nowadays, Jesus wouldn’t be 5150′d (clearly harmless), but he’d definitely be disregarded, treated not as a prophet and Son of God, but as the product of mental illness.
My question for you is, if you lived in a psychiatric age, but were nevertheless required to place yourself in the camp of either Jesus or Muhammad, would you choose to ally yourself with the man who is delusional, but humane, or the man who is paranoid schizophrenic, with all that this diagnosis entails?
On the non-Council side, The Irrationality of Europe from The Van Der Galiën Gazette came in first and The Ultimate War Simulation Game from Cracked.com was a very close second. BTW, that last one would be hilarious if it wasn’t so true!
Once again, a great selection of posts to consider, and once again, the Council has made some great decisions — here is the full account of the voting results. If you would like to have one of your own posts considered in the non-Council voting next week, take advantage of the Watcher’s offer of link whorage. Thanks again, Watcher, for putting on this little soirée each week!
