Here Comes Fred — The Michigan GOP Debate

Had a fun afternoon working with the GOP debate playing in the background on my monitor. I’m sitting here now checking out the reply on MSNBC, unfortunately this time with the commercials that were mercifully absent online.
First, I thought that Fred Thompson brought a bit of life and levity to this cadre that has been missing. He did OK, not great, but didn’t embarrass himself — actually he shut down moderator Chris Matthews at one point after Chris tried to trip him up with some criticism. Since when is a debate moderator supposed to interject himself into the debate?
Hugh Hewitt thinks that Mitt won it outright . . . I don’t know about that. I think that if Mitt is going to have a chance at winning this office, we will need to see some real fire coming out of him. He needs to channel some of that old school hell-fire and brimstone revival energy and show all of us that he really wants to be the leader of the free world.
Rudy too. I’m getting tired of Ron Paul being the only GOP candidate with fire in his belly. In fact, I’m really tired of Ron Paul, period. He’s not a Republican, he’s a freakin’ Libertarian and should just go and play in that sand box.
McCain is just too old, and isn’t going to get the support of the base, but I do like listening to him sometimes — especially on the war.
It’s time to cull this crop of candidates and let the front runners appear together without the stragglers and stunted growth entities — you know who those are. At least when listening to these guys you don’t hear a bunch of candidates pandering to the lowest common denominator of the American electorate. That’s a breath of fresh air, oh ya betcha!
