To James Hanson — Are You In Or Are You Out?
Must be hard to be “him” right now, with not so long ago having to eat some crow pie and address why the temperature data had to be adjusted down from year 2000 on. And then some schmuck reporter goes and digs up the fact that before James Hanson was a dyed in the wool Man-Caused Global Warming Alarmist he was — A Man-Caused Coming Ice Age Alarmist! Investors Business Daily scoops the poop:
Did NASA scientist James Hansen, the global warming alarmist in chief, once believe we were headed for . . . an ice age? An old Washington Post story indicates he did.
On July 9, 1971, the Post published a story headlined “U.S. Scientist Sees New Ice Age Coming.” It told of a prediction by NASA and Columbia University scientist S.I. Rasool. The culprit: man’s use of fossil fuels.
{…}
Aiding Rasool’s research, the Post reported, was a “computer program developed by Dr. James Hansen,” who was, according to his resume, a Columbia University research associate at the time.
Gee, does that sound familiar, or what? And what pray tell, was Rasool’s and Hansen’s concerns at the time over CO2 emmisions?
“They found no need to worry about the carbon dioxide fuel-burning puts in the atmosphere,” the Post said in the story, which was spotted last week by Washington resident John Lockwood, who was doing research at the Library of Congress and alerted the Washington Times to his finding.
Hmmm, makes one wonder why the severe shift. Of course, we all can change our minds — but if you remember the fear mongering that was going on in the late ’70s over the coming ice age, that’s really a quite severe shift. Could it be . . . ? Yep! Most likely so.
But what about political hypocrisy? It’s clear that Hansen is as much a political animal as he is a scientist. Did he switch from one approaching cataclysm to another because he thought it would be easier to sell to the public? Was it a career advancement move or an honest change of heart on science, based on empirical evidence?
Now, the Lefty anthropogenic climate change hysterics will cry “foul” over statements like that, but they sure don’t miss a trick when it comes to demonizing disbelievers over their past or current employment, associations, beliefs, etc.
Will be interesting to see how strongly Hansen holds to his current position if a real chill political wind begins to blow. Stay tuned . . .

Another great find for my arsenal! Yes, scientists can be hypocrites too.
