Each week a contest is held by the Watcher’s of Weasels Council, with the twelve Council members each submitting one of their own posts for review along with a non-Council submission. The full Council then votes with each member selecting their first and second place posts in each category. The Watcher tabulates the votes in his own unique manner of thirds, which more fully reflects how many members actually voted, and the results are released on Friday AM. Here are this week’s winners.

On the Council side the winner by 1/3 vote is Is War With Iran Now Just a Matter of Time? by Right Wing Nut House which examines exactly what its title asks. Rick is getting ever more pessimistic that we can avoid direct military confrontation with the Iranian Mullahs, and I’m afraid that I share his sentiment — and I also voted this post as my number one pick.

To sum up, we have an Administration determined to deal with Iran, arrogantly believing that no matter who their successor is, they won’t have the guts to do what is necessary to safeguard the country. Given the uselessness of diplomatic moves to date, it is clear to me that there is a clock – probably on Dick Cheney’s desk – that is ticking down toward zero hour.

Second place in Council voting goes to Freedom, But From What? by Bookworm Room. In it she examines the whole concept of privacy and the almost diametrically opposed viewpoints between Liberals and Conservatives towards this issue.

On the non-Council side the winner is Dead Eyes by Acute Politics, which is a sobering look at a new lieutenant on his first tour of duty in Iraq by a war-hardened veteran who, by his picture, looks all of 19 or so. God how we do need to support these brave young men and women who are laying it all on the line for US!

In second place is Iraq the Model by Dean Barnett over at Hugh Hewitt’s blog wherein Dean lays out a good case that Iraq is a critical win in the war-of-ideas, whose winner will dictate the future of our world. When you put it that way, the Dem-wits and their cute little MoveOn buddies are lookin’ pretty lame to me.
