The Democrats Attack By Proxie
We knew that it would get ugly. The pre-Petraeus news spin has been constant, and the MSM has done just about everything that it can to prejudice us, the American public, into believing that the General is nothing but a BushCo. lap dog that will do or say anything that the White House wants said in the official report to Congress this week that begins today. However, what the Congressional Democrats don’t have the bollocks to say outright, they’ll leave to the “outside groups” to say for them. Witness the following MoveOn.org sponsored ad that is running in today’s New York Times titled, “General Petraeus or General Betray us? Cooking the books for the White House.” [h/t: Hugh Hewitt]
The International Herald Tribune outlined the Democrats’ strategy yesterday:
Leading Democrats on Sunday preemptively assailed the expected findings on Iraq due this week from the top U.S. general in Iraq as “dead, flat wrong” and said that President George W. Bush’s calls for continued patience there would simply extend an “unconscionable” and “completely unacceptable” policy.
The pointed comments from the Democrats, including Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and a presidential hopeful, and Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, seemed designed to undercut the impact of the much-awaited reports from General David Petraeus and Ryan Crocker, the U.S. ambassador in Baghdad.
This is a man that the Senate voted to confirm for this job with 81 affirmative votes, zero NO votes, with 19 of our esteemed Senators that did not, or would not, vote their conscience. Over at Ace of Spades a couple of days ago Purple Avenger wrote:
Schumer – Yea

Feinstein – Yea

Obama – Yea [UPDATE, tnx Alex]
Kennedy – Yea
Reid – Yea
Levin – YeaKeep this in mind in the days to come when these jackasses start talking about “Bush’s report”. All those assholes voted to confirm Petraeus – ALL OF THEM.
If they believed he was going to lie or be a Bush sycophant, then why did they vote for him? These would be votes that need a lot of “explaining”. That approach casts severe doubt on their “judgment” if they would knowingly vote to confirm someone they thought not qualified for the job.
Keep those “yea” votes in mind this week as you see ol’ “I’m-a-real-Dick” Durbin and ol’ Harry “I-can’t-retreat-fast-enough” Reid on the news blasting Petraeus’ findings. I just hope that the American people are too smart to swallow this load of BS, but with the likes of the network talking heads, the big newspapers, and the Democratic presidential candidates with their constant barrage of negativity towards all things Iraq, all bets are off.
The only thing that is assured is that Bush won’t let that sway him from doing the right thing, and [the Democrat-led] Congress is too much of a little girl to stand by its own convictions and do the only thing it really can do to influence the war effort — cut off the funds.
Just more political theater by the Dem-wits in a time of war.
Now, isn’t that just special?
