Results From The Watcher’s Council Voting

What a great week of reading from the Watcher’s Council, and once again I find myself in agreement with the number one picks in both categories, although I missed picking the number twos by a few places.
Number one on the Council side is NYT: Analogies Are Meaningless (Unless They Favor the Left) by Big Lizards in which Dafydd shows that the liberal MSM, as embodied by the New York Times, got a little testy this week over President Bush’s speech to the VFW in which he made some analogies to Viet Nam that didn’t quite fit the progressive rewrite of history and casts these revisionists in what, to be kind, was very poor light.
The New York Times adopts a particularly cynical, even arch position on analogies: They propound the case that only highly trained historians can make proper analogies of one war to another… and even then, only when those historians are reliably liberal (e.g., teaching classes at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government).
The case is weak. Not once does the Times actually address specifics of the analogy that has them particularly vexed: President George W. Bush’s recitation of what happened after our abandonment of Vietnam, as an object lesson of what would surely follow if we abandoned Iraq today. Rather than knock down that claim per se, the elite media (in the avatar of the Times) appear to believe that they need only sneer at the very idea of analogies in general, scoff at the suggestion that Bush knows anything about history… and the rest will follow in a burst of some new class of logic hitherto unknown in the world of rhetoric.
Number two Council post was Separate But Unequal by Soccer Dad which follows the MSM’s reaction (once again this week focusing on the NYT) to two charter schools, one with “an Arabic curriculum and [one] in Florida featuring a Hebrew curriculum”, and asks why one gets a pass from the media and the other gets taken to task for the inevitable crossover of a bit o’ religion into the curriculum. I’ll give you only one guess as to which “religion” gets the pass!
On the non-Council side this week in the number one position is a post containing one of the funniest, on point viral videos I’ve yet to come across. In Like a Suppository, Only a Bit Stronger The Dissident Frogman has skewered the AFP’s reporting of “bullets” hitting the house of an old Iraqi woman as the agenda-promoting garbage that it is with a little primmer on how to fake the news a whole hell-of-a-lot better!
“Shooty, no-shooty!” BWWAAAHAAAAA!
Second in the non-Council offerings was Misfire: AP’s Bogus Ammo Shortage Story by Confederate Yankee who defies the MSM’s complaints that bloggers only parrot news they read on the net and actually does some investigative research, even calls a few folks, and learns that what the Associated Press has been telling us about our local police running out of ammunition due to the BushCo war effort was . . . shall we say a bit off the mark. Are you at all surprised?
According to two spokesmen for the world’s largest ammunition manufacturer, which runs the military’s ammunition manufacturing plant and separately, is a major supplier of law enforcement ammunition, it is a massive and unexpected increase in law enforcement ammunition demand that is causing delays in law enforcement ammunition delays, not the war.
Once again, a media organization with target fixation seems to have widely missed the mark.
See all the voting results here: (I tied for third this week in a three-way . . . Yippee!) Thanks again, Watcher!
