Climate Change Bullies — The Left Attacks!
[h/t: The Anchoress]
I missed this at the end of last week, must have been because we were focused on more important things at the time. But, thanks to The Anchoress for writing about it. The “it” is a threat by someone from an EPA-member group to destroy the career of a man-made-climate-change skeptic. The Washington Times reported:
During a Capitol Hill hearing yesterday, Sen. James M. Inhofe, Oklahoma Republican and ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, confronted EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson about the strongly-worded letter written July 13 by Michael T. Eckhart, president of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) that was sent to Marlo Lewis, senior fellow of the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI).
“It is my intention to destroy your career as a liar,” Mr. Eckhart wrote. “If you produce one more editorial against climate change, I will launch a campaign against your professional integrity. I will call you a liar and charlatan to the Harvard community of which you and I are members. I will call you out as a man who has been bought by Corporate America. Go ahead, guy. Take me on.”
Isn’t that special? The Left has been reduced to “Liar, liar, pants on fire” rhetoric because their scientific “consensus” on this matter isn’t — a consensus, that is. But, no matter. Careers are being made, grants are flowing into anthropogenic climate change research, the Holy Order of the Global Warming Alarmists is geared up for the big fight for the hearts, minds and souls of those that have a need to believe, but can’t stomach the thought of believing in something besides themselves. Can you say ultimate-narcissistic introspection to the max?
And, worse than all this is what comes next. Mark Tapscott, editorial page editor of the Washington Examiner points us to Professor Bainbridge’s blog post that warns of massive amounts of global-warming litigation that is about to be unleashed.
Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that the climate change phenomenon commonly called “global warming” exists and is being caused, at least in part, by human activity. Who is responsible? The only sensible answer is, everybody. We all contribute to the release of greenhouse gasses, as did our ancestors going back at least to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
One would therefore think litigation is no more an appropriate response to global warming than litigation would be to any so-called “act of god.” One would be wrong.
Earlier this year, Texas trial lawyer Stephen Susman told the Dallas Morning News that “You’re going to see some really serious exposure on the part of companies that are emitting CO2.” He added, for good measure, that “I can’t say for sure it’s going to be as big as the tobacco settlements, but then again it may even be bigger.”
Now that’s not good news, not good at all. Just remember, each and every time we breath out we spew at least two greenhouse gases out of our lungs — carbon dioxide and water vapor. Oh-My-God! According to the global warming alarmists’ findings, we’re all killing all of us by the very act of being alive! Not to mention the other greenhouse gas we, and the rest of the animal kingdom, emit from the other end of the alimentary canal.
If the potential for incredibly-harmful mischief via excessive taxation and crippling of our economy wasn’t so very high, this fascination of the Warmies with trying to Terra-form our own Terra-firma would be hilarious. With the very real possibility that our next President will be a Democrat that is firmly committed to the global warming initiatives, and to higher taxes, new taxes, CO2 taxes, Carbon Offsets and, yep, you guessed it — Carbon Taxes, we have to give it up to those like Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe who keep fighting the good fight against such madness, even from his minority position.
Thanks Senator, for standing up for Mr. Lewis and his right to be heard, without someone like a Michael T. Eckhart attempting to silence him by “destroying his career.”
