The ‘Council’ Has Spoken
The votes have been tallied and the Watcher has announced this week’s winning posts. This time, although I’m zip for any votes given to my entry, Baqubah Update From Michael Yon, I’m two for two in voting for the first and second place winners on the Council side.
First was Big Lizards “High Noonan”, a take down of Peggy Noonan and other Reagan worshipers that are sniping at GW. The Lizards’ are in good company this AM as Dean Barnett gives Noonan a few whaps up the side of her head with a literary tire tool. Here’s a taste of the Lizards’ commentary:
I have never had much respect for Noonan as a thinker; now I despise her as a spineless defeatist. I fully expect her eventually to find a home in Pat Buchanan/Bill O’Reilly socially conservative populism (as Buckley appears to be doing), thus completing the dawn-to-dusk cycle from naif to Reagan acolyte (Noonan’s high) to aging Mother Superior of the First Church of Fundamentalist Reaganism.
She will end her days as an embittered Maureen Dowd of the Right, endlessly railing against the modern and clinging to her narrowing tunnel-vision of Reaganism as if it were poor King Charles’ head.
In second place was ‘The NYT — “Run Away! Run Away!”‘ by Joshuapundit, wherein he slaps the NYT around a bit over their insipid wimpiness and feckless attempts to convince its readers that all is lost in Iraq, and that the only possible course is for us to leave — as soon as possible.
Always on top of any negative trend is the Paper of Refuse, as the New York Times openly calls for an immediate retreat in its editorial, The Road Home, a piece rife with disinformation, defeatism and conclusions that have nothing to do with reality. It also includes a 180 degree turnaround on Kurdistan that I’ll discuss later, although even that is tainted by the NYT’s lack of reality and hunger for an American retreat:
My number two pick for non-Council entries was my own proposed post by Don Surber about that very same subject, “NYT Surrenders”. Perhaps because Freedom Fighter did such a great job with his second-place winning post, the Surber piece was too much of the same.
The non-Council winner this week was “Interview With Todd Bensman”, in which Bensman discusses his four-part series, “Breaching America,” that ran last month in the San Antonion Express-News.
The series followed an illegal immigrant and asylum-seeker from his homeland across the US-Mexican border, to his release by US authorities to join his family in the States.
His homeland: Iraq.
It turns out that there’s a pipeline of illegals from “Countries of Special Interest” – mostly in the Middle East, almost all Muslim – that runs through Latin American into the United States.
Now, tell me you don’t want to follow that link and find out more . . .
Second in the non-Council side was “Anti-American July 4th” by Zombietime. The pics are priceless — San Francisco is a real mess! I had this one high up on my list.
I found the voting very difficult this week — too much good stuff. If you would like to submit your own post for consideration in the non-Council competition, take advantage of the Watcher’s offer of link whorage. Thanks again Watcher, for another week of great reading!
