What does a hot-stuffy retail environment have to do with Global Warming? The Anchoress found out, the hot and stuffy way.
Gonna be a long, hot summer, and global warming may indeed have something to do with it…but not as you might think.
And, on another retail note, she relates a story by her friend involving another checkout line that contains this line:
[B]ut what I want to know is, why was the Christian guy looking at her ass to start with?’
Tell me you don’t want to know what that is all about. And on the heels of more global warming issues comes these, Watcher’s Council’s Laer Pierce at Cheat Seeking Missiles tells us how energy efficient appliances to appease the Greens and their Global Warming Hysteria might just mean a lot of dirty underwear, not to mention a grisly demise in a tin-box sub-compact car — all in the name of “saving the planet”. Laer’s a straight shooter and he makes excellent points here.
It’s been awhile since I’ve bagged on the LA Times, not that they don’t deserve it almost every day, but Patterico keeps goin’ after ‘em, this from his post today, Everybody Counts or Nobody Counts.
Quanisha Pitts was a 17-year-old girl out on a date.
The report of her death appears only in the online-only Homicide Report. Quanisha Pitts’s story didn’t merit a single word in the “California section.” And that is common for deaths in South Los Angeles — a place that, last time I checked, is in “California.” What’s more, it’s in “Los Angeles,” which I believe is the area theoretically covered by the “Los Angeles” Times.
Both military deaths in Iraq and murders in Los Angeles are important. Both are symptomatic of a larger and newsworthy problem.
But only one set of deaths is getting any prominence in the Los Angeles paper — and it’s not the one most relevant to Los Angeles.
Make of that what you will.
And Patrick also showcases the differences between what was considered news 30-40 years ago compared with what passes for such today with Nick Ut, Renowned for Photo of Bawling Children, Takes Photo of Bawling Paris Hilton. That one will really make you think!
Oh, and BTW — SeeDubYa has this story: Sanjaya convicted of bribery; strippers, prostitutes involved. Nope, not even one ponyhawk to be found!
