Our Next Commander In Chief? I Don’t Think So

Edward's Day at the Spa?In a superb take down of John Edwards‘ proclivity to use campaign cash to pay for the little necessities of life, such as $400 hair cuts and full days at the spa, Dean Barnett pulls few punches. I especially like the end ‘graphs.

The real scandal is that he tried to make his contributors pay for these luxuries rather than spring for them out of his own rather will-lined pockets. If I were an Edwards contributor, the fact that my hard earned dollars that were supposed to knock down the wall that separates the Two Americas instead went to Edwards getting a facial would infuriate me. The subsequent reimbursement would fail to pacify me on that score.

As a corollary, how could Edwards have been so dumb to make his campaign pay for these things and thus make it public knowledge that he spent $400 for a day of beauty at a place called the Pink Sapphire? It’s also public knowledge that he had three such days of beauty in one quarter. That we know of! If he had just paid for his own beauty regimen right from the git-go, Amercia would have no reason to picture its potential future wartime leader with a mud-mask and cucumbers over his eyes.

Way to go, Dean! The Pink Sapphire — that’s priceless!
