Ann Coulter Criticised By GOP Candidates & Bloggers For Edwards Slur
Oh boy! There’s good things about Tivo, and bad things. For me, one of the worst is that I’ll stop watching something, thinking that I’ll get around to finishing it later, and later never comes. Case in point is the Ann Coulter appearance at last week’s CPAC conference. She’s usually good for a chuckle or two at the Democrats’ expense, and I did enjoy her Al Gore jibes and some of the Q&A afterwards — but I had to turn it off and never made it to the point where she tried to eat both feet at once with her remarks about the Dem Presidential candidate, John Edwards. From the NYT:
Three of the leading Republican presidential candidates on Saturday denounced one of their party’s best-known conservative commentators for using an antigay epithet when discussing a Democratic presidential contender at a gathering of conservatives here.
(…)
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference before an overflow crowd on Friday, Ms. Coulter said, “I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”
Yeah, both feet! Not that the Edwards’ campaign is even close to being in touch with reality. They did hire the filth and bile spewing Amanda Marcotte as their Blogmaster, and in regards to the Coulter slur came back with this.
Mr. Edwards’s aides responded with an e-mail message that attacked Ms. Coulter and urged supporters to donate to Mr. Edwards’s campaign. “John was singled out for a personal attack because the Republican establishment knows he poses the greatest threat to their power,” said his campaign manager, David E. Bonior.
“[T]he greatest threat to their [GOP] power”? Anyone bother to check in with B. Obama or ol’ Hillary? Dem straw polls, anyone? I’m hummin’ the Twilight Zone theme here as I type!
Well, Giuliani, Romney and McCain all denounced Ms. Coulter’s over-the-top rhetoric, as they should. Ad hominem attacks, though never fair or even very effective, can be fun sometimes — but not this time. It was stupid, and lazy, Ann. ‘Cause Edwards is so easy to attack on his merits and issues, or lack thereof. Resorting to name calling should have been beneath even you. Guess that’s why I don’t read you regularly anymore. Tis a pity . . . I do like knife-edged, caustic humor.
Speakin’ of which, I’ll get my dose of such from Iowahawk from now on. Here’s an excerpt from his latest where he brags about the size of his “carbon footprint”:
Frankly, I’m a little miffed at all the attention Al Gore has received recently for his supposed “wasteful” energy use. Because when it comes to stomping a new carbon-hole in our fragile planet I take a back seat to no man, including our famously jet-set former Veep. Consider the just-expired month, in which I set a new personal best in mindless resource consumption: 6000 miles in air travel, 2500 miles by ground (including a memorable joy ride to the Merrill Ice Drags), and a trailer thermostat permanently locked in at a toasty 85 degrees Farenheit. Top that, Al!
XXXXL, natch!
But, back to Ann. Right wing bloggers didn’t find her remarks very funny, not at all. Patterico has a few things to say to her plus a roundup of opinion from our side of the ‘sphere, then ends with this:
As the saying goes: don’t go away mad, Ann. Just go away.
Thanks, Patrick — that pretty much sums it up for me, too . . . (db)
