Easter Season — Once Again Time To Trash Christian Beliefs?

[Welcome Anchoress readers: There's lot's goin' on today, with more carping about the Global Warming Hysterics and a boring Academy Awards show last night. Visit our main page for all the newest posts, & enjoy! -- "Okie"]

Way back in Dec. ’04 I wrote about the tandem efforts of Time and Newsweek to call into question the authenticity of Christ’s birth.

In a one-two punch, the two leading news magazines in the U.S., Time and Newsweek, have both decided to take no prisoners and attack the historical basis for the birth of Jesus, and in doing so, they marginalize, if not outright satirize, the beliefs of all Christians worldwide.
(…)
It can’t be coincidence that both majors have decided to gun down the Nativity at the same time, and in so similar a manner. I think that the MSM has become so completely intimidated and infiltrated by the secular left that there is absolutely no shame and no hesitation to cast dispersion on something that is believed by so many.

Well, if I thought that was bad, you can imagine what I think of this — Time (in partnership with CNN) is all agog over director/producer Jim Cameron’s newest project in which Cameron claims that Jesus was not resurrected and that the coffins of Jesus, Mary, Mary Magdelene and the rest of Christ’s family have been found.

Brace yourself. James Cameron, the man who brought you ‘The Titanic’ is back with another blockbuster. This time, the ship he’s sinking is Christianity.

In a new documentary, Producer Cameron and his director, Simcha Jacobovici, make the starting claim that Jesus wasn’t resurrected –the cornerstone of Christian faith– and that his burial cave was discovered near Jerusalem. And, get this, Jesus sired a son with Mary Magdelene.

No, it’s not a re-make of “The Da Vinci Codes’. It’s supposed to be true.

Good grief! I guess it must be Oscar envy run amok in the Cameron house, with not a hint of any press for poor ol’ Jim this year. So, he has to upstage the industries main event by announcing that he’ll be making his BIG presentation tomorrow in NYC.

Ever the showman, (Why does this remind me of the impresario in another movie,”King Kong”, whose hubris blinds him to the dangers of an angry and very large ape?) Cameron is holding a New York press conference on Monday at which he will reveal three coffins, supposedly those of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. News about the film, which will be shown soon on Discovery Channel, Britain’s Channel 4, Canada’s Vision, and Israel’s Channel 8, has been a hot blog topic in the Middle East (check out a personal favorite: Israelity Bites) Here in the Holy Land, Biblical Archeology is a dangerous profession. This 90-minute documentary is bound to outrage Christians and stir up a titanic debate between believers and skeptics. Stay tuned.

Oh, but you just know that the bigwigs in the MSM would just love for Christians all over the world to go berserk about this — going out and burning & pillaging, making death threats toward Cameron and the good professor, rioting and generally acting like practitioners of that other religion so beloved by MSMers everywhere, The Religion of Peace. But, won’t happen. Our guys will be shocked and angered — then kneel and pray for the souls of Cameron and all those that believe like he does. ‘Cause we know that there are forces out there much bigger than we are. Indeed, go back to the Time piece and check out the reader comments. They start out rough but as the true believers get involved the discussion morphs into something interesting and uplifting.

Thinking along the same lines, the Anchoress remarked on Friday:

‘Round this time of year, the stories begin – last year, for Lent we were treated to The Gospel of Judas, and I think the DaVinci Code was opening, or something.

Now, supposedly The Tomb of Jesus has been found in a cave, oh, and guess what? He had a son named Judah! Yeah, because he and Mary Magdeline had a kid!

For some reason, these “caskets” (! caskets?) use the name “Maria” for Mary…wouldn’t Mary have been “Miryam,” not “Maria” ‘way back then?

Oh, what do I know, I’m just one of those silly deluded Christian creeps who is clinging to her superstitions and is not interested in the bleak “truth” that there is nothing out there greater than herself. I’m such a baaaaad babyboomer.

There it is again, that theme that keeps coming up on this blog — that the Baby Boomers (my generation) are really pathetic and are basically going to have to die out for all this to get better. Too bad it’s the secularists that make health their religion — what with all the good diet and exercise, that die off is gonna take a looooong time. Eat more bacon guys — pork fat rules!

As an aside, living out here in SoCal puts you in strange places from time-to-time. Once, many years ago, I was actually standing in the living room of James Cameron and his wife at the time Gale Anne Hurd, examining Stan Winston’s stop action model for the skeletal climax of the first Terminator film that was sitting on top of their grand piano. What a cool, intricate piece of film sculpture. How many of Cameron’s films I’ve enjoyed, The Abyss, the Terminator series, Aliens, and yes, even Titanic.

But no more. I think I’ll throw the DVDs in the dumpster, and never again watch another Cameron anything. Enough is finally enough. There’s far too much entertainment out there to be inadvertently supporting heresy with my hard earned bucks. I’ll be watching the Oscars tonight as well, to see who else winds up on the Okie sh_t-list. Maybe I’ll have to add that section on one of my sidebars. Time to take a stand — it’s such a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things, don’t ya think? (db)
