Sen. Barbara Boxer Slams Condi For Being Childless — Shocking Behavior Beyond the Pale

The New York Post has an editorial today that calls out California Senator Barbara Boxer for her snide and callus remarks to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the Senate hearings yesterday.

Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, an appalling scold from California, wasted no time yesterday in dragging the debate over Iraq about as low as it can go – attacking Secre tary of State Condoleezza Rice for being a childless woman.

Boxer was wholly in character for her party – New York’s own two Democratic senators, Chuck Schumer and Hillary Rodham Clinton, were predictably opportunistic – but the Golden State lawmaker earned special attention for the tasteless jibes she aimed at Rice.

Rice appeared before the Senate in defense of President Bush’s tactical change in Iraq, and quickly encountered Boxer.

“Who pays the price? I’m not going to pay a personal price,” Boxer said. “My kids are too old, and my grandchild is too young.”

Then, to Rice: “You’re not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family.”

How do I know that the LAT won’t bring this to the fore? Because the following is all that they printed today about Boxer’s participation in the affair. And, I don’t expect them to pick up on it tomorrow, or the next day, or the next . . .

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), in an emotional confrontation, recalled Rice’s erroneous prediction to the committee in fall 2005 that the Iraqi army’s increasing capabilities would soon permit a drawdown of U.S. troops.

Boxer had a staff member hold up a placard showing Rice’s declaration, which said: “We are going to be able to bring down the level of our forces. I have no doubt that that’s going to happen in a reasonable time frame.”

Boxer said the president’s planned troop increase was “a total rebuke of your confident pronouncement.”

No mention whatsoever about Boxer’s “childless” remark. The NY Post goes on to say:

The junior senator from California apparently believes that an accomplished, seasoned diplomat, a renowned scholar and an adviser to two presidents like Condoleezza Rice is not fully qualified to make policy at the highest levels of the American government because she is a single, childless woman.

It’s hard to imagine the firestorm that similar comments would have ignited, coming from a Republican to a Democrat, or from a man to a woman, in the United States Senate. (Surely the Associated Press would have put the observation a bit higher than the 18th paragraph of a routine dispatch from Washington.)

Boy, ain’t that the truth. Can you imagine if former Republican Senator Rick Santorum had questioned someone like Madeleine Albright in a Senate hearing and discounted her input because she was a “divorced” woman or any other “kind” of woman? Babs has some nerve, that’s for sure. But, the Democrats aren’t gonna stand still for Bush trying to win this war — nosiree! They are gonna do everything in their power to see the Iraq War effort fail — obstruct, bad mouth, downplay success and play up any setbacks, pass stupid-meaningless resolutions, even eventually cut off funding once the rabid-Lefty base gets up to full cry. It ain’t gonna be even remotely pretty folks, and it’ll all be on camera, all-the-time, ’cause the Leftist MSM just “loves” this stuff — gettin’ all Vietnam & Watergate misty-eyed, relivin’ the glory days of yesteryear when the Forth Estate took down an American President — just hopin’ that this is finally their chance to do it again before all us Boomers die out, or pass deep into Alzheimer’d irrelevance.

The Anchoress seems to be on the same page as this ol’ Okie:

Now, suddenly, if you don’t have children you are not fit to talk and you have no moral authority. If you have no children, prepare to have that fact flung in your face by feminists, if they find it politically expediant to do so.

Only a 21st Century so-called liberal would say such a rotten thing to Condi. Only a 21st Century so-called liberal would get away with it, too. I see no hue and cry from the feminists, of course, and not much coverage byn the press, of course. Can you imagine how this would be wall-to-wall covered if a Republican had dared to say such a thing to an unmarried, childless Democrat?

Of course, Lefties Don’t Think That Anything Is Wrong With Boxer’s Question. At the DailyKos one of the commentors sums up his view of our Sec. of State:

what do you expect from someone (3+ / 0-)

who is single, an orphan and an only child……

at least she cant run for president acc’d to Laura Bush, but she can sure do a shitload of damage at State.

i LOATHE this piece of shit piano player…..

(pic of shoes)

“would you like some WMDs with those ferragamos”

“who would have expected they would slam airplanes into buildings”

He may talk like an idiot, and look like an idiot, but don’t let that fool you: he really is an idiot. Send him back to his father and brothers…

Classy — as usual from Lefty nutters. Support from the likes of these must make ol’ Babs proud, too . . . At least she can do something right, occasionally. (db)

What barbara boxer said was fact, As a matter of fact I bet Condoleezza Rice never put her life on the line to fight a war that she had no choice in. Oh and hey if everyone is so for this war then go join, no ones stopping you, but don’t commit our men and women so freely if your not willing to do the same.

We have an all-volunteer military in the U.S. If you sign on the dotted line to up or re-up, you know that you might be asked to fight, be wounded or even die for your country. After those planes flew into the WTC and the Pentagon on 9/11/01, everyone had a reality check on what is going on in this world. The party-time of the ’90s is so long ago over!

Like it is said, “Freedom isn’t Free”. I don’t think that they are taking 54-year-olds with bad tickers, but I wouldn’t try to talk my son out of joining up if that were to be his calling. I’d be a proud papa!
