Happy New Year! — 2007
Just finished watching the Rose Parade, and with all the bright, sunny images most of Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma should be packing up to move out here this afternoon. Sorry son, bet you got hammered out there in Enid! Didn’t realize that there was going to be so much attention to good ol’ OK in the parade — was kinda nice, with the Centennial and all happening this year. It’s gonna be a day of rest and then some good eatin’ a bit later, with fresh chopped chuck/top sirloin burgers, freshly made boutique sausages and other stuff on the grill. I’ll update this post if I get a chance, but here are a few observations so far.
Dean Barnett has an inspiring post that you will want to read. It really captures the spirit of hope that one usually wishes to embrace at the dawning of the New Year. Mark Steyn takes a sobering look at what 2007 really needs, some “Resolution”. And, as noted by The Anchoress, the Good Morning America gang over at ABC seems to find the Christian belief in the afterlife as something “odd or erroneous”, enough so that they put a “sic” after such a statement from the friend of the 3000th fallen U.S. service-person to have been killed in Iraq. You can check out the details and comments over at New Busters. Just another reason to avoid the ABC/CBS/NBC/PBS news outlets like the plague.
I was kind of depressed after looking at this AM’s LA Times, but now can’t figure out exactly why. Maybe it was this, or more likely, this. Yeah, that was it — pathetic! At least about half of the LAT’s wishes for 2007 seem reasonable.
More later . . . maybe. Happy New Year from the “Okie”! (db)

If you’re feeling a bit icky over Saddam Hussein’s execution (I’m certainly not!), then SeeDubya has an antidote in one of his guest posts over at Hot Air.
These arch-villains deserve a rollicking sendoff, with a double shot of coarse and raunchy scorn, because their deaths mark great victories over terror, genocide, and anarchy. They are the opposite of martyrs. They are each tyrants, or would-be tyrants, and tyrants deserve, in just recompense, the one thing they cannot bear: our mockery.
Saddam thought he would be the new Saladin, a pan-Arab strongman. By the great strivings of some great men, he instead died a common criminal. So if you have a glass of something handy, please join me in drinking Damnation to the Devil’s own, and salvation to those who sent him home!
Bottom’s up!
