Saddam Hussein Hanged — Thoughts On The Execution Of A Butcher

Day by Day

Saddam swung like a pendulum do last night our time, sunrise his, and now he’s dead as the proverbial doornail. Drudge links to the video — I’ll pass, but if you’re of a mind, be my guest. I was going to take a spin around the Loony Left side of the blogosphere to see what their reaction to Saddam’s execution happens to be, but lucky for me, Josh Trevino has already done that over at Hugh Hewitt’s blog, so now I don’t have to go dumpster diving this AM. Be forewarned, what Trevino finds sure ain’t pretty. Here’s a taste:

  • [P]lease tell me what f—— moral standing does the US (or any other country for that matter) have to go into another country and do what we just did to Saddam? The fact that it is the US – that “shining beacon of freedom” is even worse. What does that say? What message does that send? And who made us World Police anyway? This is a mockery of justice.
  • Why would I write an obituary for Saddam Hussein? Because he was a human being. He did some horrible things while he was alive, but he was still human. By murdering him we have become no better than he was.
  • The administration will, in due course, stand to account for a war crime committed in Iraq by executing the Iraqi dictator.

Yeach! You gotta give Trevino props for wading through such a deep pile of it. What’s even more distasteful are the nutters that are calling for the execution of George Bush — yes, they are . . . the little dears. And, then there is Wilbur’s diary over at Daily Kos. Wilbur seems to have gotten in touch with his feminine side over the Hussein execution and laments:

I have just read that Saddam Hussein is dead. Hung by the neck until dead – isn’t that the phrase they always use on television? And I feel an overwhelming sense of sadness. Everybody has to start by saying that it isn’t bad that Saddam Hussein is dead – he was an evil man. But what is evil? It is a religious denunciation, a way to set a person apart from humanity. We need to do this I suppose. And if we say that Saddam Hussein is an evil man, don’t we then have to say that other men are good? Who is good I wonder? Where do we find these men of goodness? To say Saddam Hussein was evil is too easy, it lets us off the hook. Saddam Hussein was a cruel man, a selfish man, a desperate man, a sad man.
(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…)(…) [ad nauseum!]
And I come in here tonight and surf on my computer and the first information I get is that Saddam Hussein was hung by the neck until dead. I don’t think we put him out of his misery. I believe he left misery behind long ago. We had taken it from him, because misery was too good for this man – we wanted something more. But he was human – he had dreams, he had aspirations, I am sure. He did kind things sometimes, I am sure. But yes he was a cruel man – funny I felt obligated to say that. I am wondering if Saddam Hussein’s execution will put me out of my misery. Not tonight – because tonight I feel an overwhelming sense of sadness.

Oh, boo hoo, Wilbur — Those be real tears, methinks . . . you wretched nutter! And LGF links to this little gem at the Huffington Post: WELL HUNG! Saddam Hung To Prove Bush is BETTER Hung… (Than His Dad)

We Got Him!!!! Only $354 Billion & 3,000 US Military!
(I’d call that a Bargain. The best we’ve ever had…)

Pathetic, isn’t it, the nutter mindset? The Dean Barnett post preceding Trevino’s at Hugh’s place gets right to the meat of the matter — something that the Nutters on the Left just can’t seem to grasp — with these thoughts.

There is one reason why Saddam Hussein’s life got the ending it deserved twelve hours ago: The righteous force of the United States of America.
(…)
The weak-kneed among us, like the NewYork Times editorial board and the president’s father, never knew what to do with Saddam Hussein. George W. Bush did – kill him. At his best, Bush shows a focus and a harshness that scares the stuffing out of the rest of the world.

Our enemies were watching last night. I bet Bashir Assad was picturing his neck in that noose, knowing full well that George W. Bush’s ire would be something that John Kerry, Arlen Specter and any other sympathetic Senatorial dhimmis would be unable to save him from. Kim Jong Il and a host of loonies in Iran probably took notice as well. For them, the sad fact is that they remain alive only at the pleasure of George W. Bush. I doubt that thought gives them much comfort.

And, what of the media? Well, the LA Times does a yeah, but headline on its front page:

Hussein executed — and Iraq braces

One would like to think that when an evil of the magnitude of a Saddam Hussein is expunged from our world, that a simple, very-large-type “Hussein Executed” would suffice — except that those ol’ Lefties at the LAT just can’t help themselves and have to editorialize every time, in every way. Guess I should add this one to my list too, right Kent? Not to be outdone, the AP puts its own spin on the event saying that Saddam was “executed by vengeful countrymen”. At least the New York Times, its last minute editorial against the execution notwithstanding, gets the situation right this AM with this headline:

HUSSEIN IS EXECUTED
Dictator Who Ruled Iraq With Violence Is Hanged for Crimes Against Humanity

That’s a bit more like it as far as I’m concerned. Taking a quick spin around the sane side of the Blogosphere I see that The Anchoress points out that there was Dancing in Dearborn over the death of Saddam. And, as usual, Captain Ed brings an intelligent focus to an important event:

The dictator has met his end, at the hands of the people he tormented for decades. He received more justice in a single day of his trial than he ever gave anyone during his reign of terror. Yet the American media covered that trial as if it were the Saddam show, rather than provide coverage of the many witnesses to his genocides and crimes against humanity. This was the most consequential and historic trial of a mass murderer since Nuremberg, and the only points of interest to the American media were the self-serving disruptions of the defendants — and they questioned the fairness of the trial because the monsters tried turning the trial into a circus.

It wasn’t just the execution coverage that was a joke; it was the entire coverage of Saddam Hussein, going back to Eason Jordan’s deal with the devil that kept their Baghdad bureau open. The last 24 hours just confirms their soullessness.

For those that have the will to see, it’s very plain that Iraq could never become anything while Saddam still lived. Mark Steyn explains:

The reality is that, as long as he was alive, there was always the possibility that he would return. When a dictator has exercised the total control over his subjects that Saddam did, his hold on them can only end with his death.

Saddam Hussein — dead at 69 by hanging — sentence carried out by his own countrymen — couldn’t happen to a more deserving piece of [ ]! Who’s next? Assad? Mahmoud? Kim? Nasrallah? (db)

  1. The left is so looney. – I still don’t see how you can stand going to the LAT even if it is to post on how crappy they are.

I saw the Huffington, Saddam hung, thing and was amazed that anyone would take the time to create such crap and more amazed that people came by, read it and then commented as it were a ‘right on’ article. – Total nonsense and not worth the time to click on the link to the page -
