More Polonium-210 Found — This Time On British Airways B767s
If stuff like this doesn’t get Al Qaeda all hot and bothered, I’m a Yankee!
British Airways said that “very low traces of a radioactive substance” had been found on two of its three aircraft taken out of service in the probe into the death of a former Russian spy.
BA said it withdrew three Boeing 767 short-haul carriers from service “to enable forensic examination to be carried out” after it was notified Tuesday night by those probing Alexander Litvinenko’s death last week.
“The initial results of the forensic tests, which was (sic) confirmed late this afternoon, has shown very low traces of a radioactive substance onboard two of the three aircraft,” the BA statement said.
And then there’s this — a former Russian Prime Minister out of favor with the current regime almost dies from a mysterious illness — coincidence?
Gaidar, 50, became ill in Ireland the day after former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko, an opponent of President Vladimir Putin, died in London with a “significant” quantity of radioactive Polonium 210 in his system.
“Yegor Gaidar was within a hair’s breadth of death on Nov. 24,” Chubais told journalists in St. Petersburg today, in remarks e-mailed to Bloomberg News by his office. “Could it have been some kind of natural illness? To judge by what the most professional doctors say, no.”
Methinks someone at the Kremlin has been watching too many James Bond movies . . . (db)
