Happy Thanksgiving, 2006!
On my first blogging Thanksgiving day in 2004, I was extending the olive branch out to those that were feeling depressed over the Presidential election results:
We truly do have a lot to be thankful for this year, beginning with the results of Nov. 2nd. I know that many, about 47-48% of those who voted may not think so, but I believe that time will prove this to be so.
We also MUST take the time and spirit to thank our brave men and women around the globe that are working and fighting to make our freedom possible, especially those in Afghanistan and those in mortal combat in Iraq. Their sacrifices, in time, blood and life, make all of this possible over here in this great land! We owe them a debt that can never be repaid.
Proof that my seer credentials aren’t worth much in that first ‘graph, but the second statement is even more relevant today. I then presented a list of the seven things for which I was most thankful that year — that list is still a pretty good list — and then my most thankful moment: the gift of life via Christ in my own life. Life was good.
Blogging year number two saw the Thanksgiving list go down to six items — and life was still good.
It’s blogging year Thanksgiving number three today and I’m not in the mood for making lists. I am now one of the “47-48% of those who voted” in this year’s election that aren’t very happy with the outcome, and I’m not seeing any olive branches being extended my way — but I refuse to fall into despair. When one considers all the other world governments, how can we not cherish and be thankful for ours — hey, the next federal elections are now less than two years away!
Our soldiers are still out there giving their time, effort, blood, sweat and sometimes their very lives so that we may live our American way of life. They volunteer for this because they believe in something bigger, more important than their individual selves. How can one not be thankful for that level of “giving”?
People like SeeDubYa and his Mrs. are confident enough to bring new life into this world — making brand-spankin’-new Americans — and you just gotta be thankful for that!
My pies just came out of the over — apple butter pumpkin and a double-crust blackberry — and my “grandmother’s” rolls will be baked right after the turkey comes out.
I know that I, and my elastic-waist britches, will be extra thankful for those! (db)
