Centanni & Wiig are Freed!
Great news today! Fox correspondent Steve Centanni, and freelance cameraman Olaf Wiig from New Zealand have been released from their captivity after being held for almost two weeks by their radical Muslim kidnappers in Gaza. Michelle Malkin has a comprehensive, continual updating of the situation on her blog. Here’s an excerpt from the AP’s report that I wish to comment about.
Militants freed two Fox News journalists on Sunday, ending a nearly two week hostage drama. One of the former captives said they were sometimes held face down in a dark garage, tied up in painful positions and forced at gunpoint to make videos and say they had converted to Islam.
Catch that last sentence? “[F]orced at gunpoint to make videos and say they had converted to Islam.”
Say what you will about the religious Right in America, but you aren’t gonna find anyone putting a gun to someone’s head and forcing them to “come to Jesus”! Just ain’t happenin’ folks. That whole mantra about “Islam – Religion of Peace” will continue to fall on severely deaf ears if those of the faith don’t stand up and denounce the radicals that are hijacking their religion. They might even have to actively stand up to, and even kill those that are trying to take them — along with the rest of us — back to the 7th Century and subjugate them/us to the horrors of Sharia.
As Hugh Hewitt often says, there are plenty, if not mostly, good Muslims in America — and some are even serving in our armed forces fighting against the radical Islamic terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan. But, as Dennis Prager often comments, there were a lot of good Germans in Germany during WWII — didn’t do them, or the world much good — ’cause the BAD Germans took over the reigns of power and had their way with the world.
Don’t say it can never happen again — because it most definitely WILL happen, unless we are prepared and willing to pay the price to keep our freedom. Freedom is never “Free”, and the cost must be paid in blood. Always has been — always will be.
To our everlasting shame, my generation stood up in the ’60s & ’70s and loudly proclaimed, “Hell no — We won’t go!” Well, not all of us, thank God. And today, we have the bravest and the finest that volunteer to serve their country. But, to the “Hell no” guys that dominate the MSM, they would rather asks questions like those in today’s LA Times Q&A piece Why Involuntary Call-Ups in All-Volunteer Military?
Q: Weren’t the number of troops in Iraq supposed to go down this year?
or,
Q: Bush administration officials talk about the all-volunteer force. Are the troops in Iraq all volunteers?
A: They all voluntarily joined the military. But as in the case of the Marines in the individual ready reserve, many had little or no choice about going to Iraq.
Like, when you’re in the military you get to “choose” where you’ll be assigned during wartime? Maybe we have a basic misunderstanding about war and military service by the Times’ staff writers? Ya think? And, I really like this one:
Q: How many others were given no choice?
Iraq is definitely no piece of cake. Bush never promised that it would be, in fact, he did just the opposite. Funny how an extended struggle separates the men from the soft-of-will — and I don’t mean funny, ha ha. It will take men, and women, of steely will and commitment to purpose to win this struggle with radical Islam. Those that command them must be of the same character. The children will continue to play their games, but they must not be allowed access to the big-boy toys, ’cause they don’t know what to do with them, and they wouldn’t use them if they did . . . (Db)
