I keep making references to Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and August 22nd — the Muslim “Night of the Sira’a and Miira’aj” — now only 11 days away. In my post I quoted Robert Spencer’s article over at FrontPageMag, where he wrote:
Certainly a nuclear attack on Jerusalem or even an all-out conventional assault against Israel by Iran would be consistent with Ahmadinejad’s oft-repeated denials of Israel’s right to exist and recent predictions that its demise was at hand. He hinted at the use of nuclear weapons in his phrasing when he said that Israel “pushed the button of its own destruction” by finally retaliating against Hizballah’s relentless rocket barrage from south Lebanon.
If you want to watch Robert Spencer being interviewed, and hear his examination of the reason 8/22 is important, ol’ Mahmoud’s frame of mind and his likely intent, then boogey over to Hot Air, where Allahpundit has it in spades!
The boss and I had it out over IM last night about whether this August 22nd doomsday warning is something right-wing pundits should be talking about. We did manage to agree on two points: 1) Like Bernard Lewis, Robert Spencer’s always worth listening to, and 2) when an American television show books the author of “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam,” that in itself is a newsworthy event.
If only there were some way for him to get his message out in video format that bypassed the mainstream media. Hmmm.
I do think the apocalypse-now stuff has potential as a video trope, particularly if it were incorporated into a weekly weather report. “Clear skies ’til Sunday, Bill, except for Thursday, which happens to be the anniversary of Mohammed sacrificing a goat. A very important day for Shiites. I’m calling for a 40% chance of showers and a 20% chance of nuclear war in Tel Aviv.”
