Why Israel’s Response Against Hamas & Hezbollah Is Justified

Yoni Tidi, frequent caller to Hugh Hewitt’s radio show and now blogger over at Townhall.com brings some insight into the level of Israeli military response in this current escalating war.

Why are people just so stupid about the Middle East? I have been watching American News since 3 AM and I have been struck by one fact over and over again. Americans are really out of touch with what is going on in the Middle East. These Americans are Senators, Congressmen and news talking heads.

The mantra that is driving me crazy is two fold, first the cry that Israel’s response is disproportional. So let’s review what the facts are, Israel was invaded from both Gaza and Lebanon and our citizens were murdered and kidnapped. What government in the world would allow such action to be taken without a sever[e] response, none.

These attacks would be enough for most governments, but then we must add in the rocket attacks, 10,000 Qassam rockets have been fired out of Gaza into the towns of southern Israel. Of course Israel deserves this since we left the Palestinians of Gaza to stand on their own and to build a future for their children, but like a spoiled child they have thrown a year long tantrum of violence and death directed toward the Jews of the south of Israel.

In the last three days since the invasion by Hizbullah over 700 rockets have fallen on Israel resulting in three dead and several hundred wounded.

So has Israel’s response been out of proportion, I think it has been too measured. (…)

Our government and military would not allow anything like that to happen here. Any sustained terrorist-military attacks from the other side of either the Canadian or Mexican border would be dealt with swiftly and permanently. It seems like we are often willing to pussy-foot around the world, but when we are attacked on our own soil, we rise up in unity and swat the gnat. Why shouldn’t Israel have our support in doing the same, especially since their “gnats” are more like swarming pterodactyls!

Then, Yoni makes a case for the US to encourage Israel to hit Syria.

America should be pushing Israel to hit Syria. It would greatly help the situation in Iraq for America. Syria lets hundreds if not thousands of terrorist cross their boarder to attack American soldiers in Iraq, By allowing Israel to attack now this would reduce these terrorist crossing Syria to Iraq to zero, thus saving America lives. Syria also let Sadaam send his WMD to Syria, before America attacked Iraq.

If America pushes Israel to curtail attacks, instead of pushing Israel to attack Syria, America will in the end pay a price of American blood. It will be immediate with the soldiers in Iraq paying the price for American and Israel giving into cries of the anti Israel EU and UN. It will also be long term due to putting off the conflict with both Syria and Iran.

Syria has been on the list for quite a while. There is much speculation that Syria is where the missing Iraqi WMDs wound up. If so, and if this new conflict continues to escalate, we might see Hezbollah (actually Iran/Syria?) be stupid/desperate enough to use some of that, God forbid. If that happens, what would the rest of the world and the cowering UNers think when Israel responds in kind?
