Mark Steyn On Hugh Hewitt’s Show — Palestinianization, Arabization and Islamization

I always enjoy listening to Hugh Hewitt interview Mark Steyn, and Thursday’s talk was no exception. Steyn, as always, had plenty of cogent things to say about the current Israeli conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah, which you should read via the Radioblogger transcript.

Near the end of this interview asks the following question, and Steyn’s answer is sobering.

HH: So Mark Steyn, do you think the American political electorate is watching this, and understanding again what we talk about a lot. There’s a serious party in the United States. It might not be always right. It isn’t always right. It makes mistakes. But there’s also a fundamentally feckless and silly party, and it’s the Democratic Party, and it’s the political left.

MS: Yeah, well, you know, a Canadian blogger, Kathy Shaidle, who I like tremendously, her website. She said you know, Alan Colmes has said he’s agnostic on the matter of whether 9/11 was an inside job. Now let’s take him at his word. If these people, high up in the Democratic Party, seriously thought the president of the United States had committed, deliberately killed thousands of Americans…you know, Kathy said if that happened in her country, in Canada, she wouldn’t want to live in that country anymore. She’d get her passport, she’d get her stuff together, and she’d get out of there. And the fact that you can sort of say Bush killed thousands of Americans, and then sit out on your cafe in San Francisco, sipping your venti latte, as if that’s just something normal…I mean, this is pathetic. There’s a disease in the Democratic Party that they’ve got to cure, because it’s not good for the political system.

HH: No, it’s not. We need two parties, but two serious parties. Mark Steyn, always a pleasure. Steynonline.com, America.

“Alan Colmes has said he’s agnostic on the matter of whether 9/11 was an inside job.” That really shook me! I’ve basically stopped watching Hannity & Colmes, because TIVO allows me to watch the Brit Hulme show instead, and I don’t want to hear any more about the Duke lacrosse players until that case is either dropped or gone to trial — not to mention all the screaming and talking over each other that is allowed on that show. I don’t miss Colmes making outrageous Leftist statements, either. But, this one is beyond the pale. You would think that his and Hannity’s experience with Kevin Barret would give him pause . . . but maybe not. Can a Leftist ever admit that they are wrong about their beliefs, it’s not a religion — well, maybe it is!

But, back to Steyn. Here’s his take on Gaza:

(…) Gaza, which has been left to the Palestinians, as you say, the mask is off. You suddenly realize they’ve got no interest in nation building, no interest in state building. There is no Palestinian nationalist movement. The salient fact about Gaza is that the average age in Gaza, the median age is 15.6 years. You’re dealing with a population of unemployed teenage boys, raised in a death cult, and encouraged to think that Jew killing is the highest fulfillment of life.
(…)
The people in Gaza are people who…they’re mothers who are proud of the fact. This one woman was elected to the legislature in this Hamas landslide. She’s proud of the fact that she’s a mother of six, down to a mother of three right now, because three of them blew themselves up trying to kill Israelis, and she wants the other three to follow in their footsteps.

Not much hope for the Palestinians left over there. Israel better get on with it. It’s painful to lance boils and squeeze out the puss — it can be deadly not to . . . (db)
