CAIR Says — Change In Somalia Is Good

The next time you hear someone say that CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations, is a pro-western, moderate voice of Islam, refer them to this statement on their website, [h/t: LGF].

What has happened in Somalia, for the majority of Somalis inside and those who are abroad, is a positive change. I truly suggest that we should not prejudge this change, or any change for that matter, based on the religious affiliation of those in power.

OK, let’s go through the drill:

1) From the AP/Somali Islamic Militiamen Break Up Wedding –

The Islamic militiamen controlling the Somali capital broke up a wedding celebration because a band was playing and women and men were socializing together, witnesses said Saturday, describing the latest crackdown by a group feared to be installing Taliban-style rule in this African nation.

The Islamic fighters beat band members with electric cables and confiscated their equipment, said Asha Ilmi Hashi, a singer with the group Mogadishu Stars.

“We had warned the family not to include in their ceremony what is not allowed by the sharia law. This includes the mixing of men and women and playing music,” Sheik Iise Salad, who heads an Islamic court in the northeastern Huriwaa District, told The Associated Press. “That is why we raided and took their equipment.”

“What was going there was un-Islamic,” Salad said.

2) From LA Times/Sheik Urges Death for Nonobservant –

A leading sheik said Friday that Muslims who do not pray five times a day should be put to death.

The sheik’s statement, which he confirmed to Reuters after it was broadcast on local media, caused consternation among residents and is expected to fuel Western fear that the Islamists militias that recently seized the capital are planning a hard-line Taliban-style rule.

“He who does not perform prayer will be considered as infidel and our Sharia law orders that person to be killed,” said Sheik Abdallah Ali, who runs a Sharia, or Islamic law, court here in the capital, where the militias took control last month.

3) From Expatica/Islamists shoot World Cup viewers in Somalia –

Islamist militiamen raided a cinema in central Somalia where viewers were watching a World Cup football match in contravention of Sharia law, killing two people including the cinema owner, witnesses said Wednesday.

“The Islamic militia ordered the owner to turn off the television but he refused. Then they shot him in the leg and the chest,” a local resident who identified himself only as Mohammed told Deutsche Presse-Agentur.

Not bad for only having control for a couple of weeks, huh? Wonder what good ol’ Somalia will be like in a few months? Can you say TALIBAN part deux?!!!

Yeah — Beatings for listening to music and going to a mixed-company wedding — Threats of death if you miss a prayer — Death if you watch a soccer game on TV — a real “positive change” . . . Oh you betcha! Some moderate religion of peace! (db)
