The Party of Death
Check out Michelle Malkin’s Vent for today about the case of Andrea Clarke. For those of us that blogged extensively last year to save the life of Terri Schiavo, this is certainly dega vu to the max, except this time, the family is trying to keep the patient alive, and the hospital is the one trying to pull the plug! All because of what is known as Texas’ futile-care law.
In her Vent, Michelle interviews Ramesh Ponnuru, author of The Party of Death, talking with him about the Schiavo case, abortion, euthanasia and what is happening in Texas with Ms. Clarke. Liberal Democrats have had their philosophies corrupted by the abortion issue and now are faced with having to defend the killing of innocents on the other end of the life spectrum. Once you buy into the devaluing of human life at any stage, the slippery slope has you, and you fall into the abyss of embracing death as a cure-all.
Texas Right to Life website has seemingly has some good news about Andrea:
Texas Right to Life has been working for the last three weeks with the family of Andrea Clark, a patient at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, who was slated to have all life-sustaining treatment (including food and water) removed against her wishes on Sunday, April 30th. This decision was made by Andrea’s primary physician and then approved by the St. Luke’s ethics committee—chaired by a prominent Houston abortionist. With mounting pressure from the public generated by Andrea’s family and pro-life activists, St. Luke’s arranged to transfer Andrea to an acute care facility in Illinois rather than withdrawing care. (See the transfer story in the Houston Chronicle http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3826053.html.)
However, minutes before the transfer was to occur last Friday, April 28th, St. Luke’s realized that the Illinois facility was not adequately equipped to care for Andrea. Andrea’s family was distraught to think that Andrea’s life would be hanging in the balance at a facility that considered her life futile and effectively wanted her dead. The attorneys began some fast talking, and Andrea’s care and treatment was continued indefinitely.
The Democrats are wrong on the War on Terror, wrong on energy, wrong on education and absolutely and disgustingly wrong on the life-or-death issues of abortion and euthanasia! Thanks, Michelle, for keeping this on the Hot-Air Burner . . . (db)
