My Day Without An Immigrant

Or should I say, without an illegal immigrant. You see, my wife employs two legal immigrants from Asia in her accounting firm, and they are just the best. Intelligent, hard working, caring, honest — what more could one ask for? Well, they aren’t cheap, but they are well worth their salaries. In fact, we don’t think of them as being other, but just as folks we enjoy working with that we would not want to have to get along without.

Now, on to my day without an illegal immigrant, which is another situation altogether. It was interesting, that’s what. Our favorite Japanese lunch spot was open, and the Hispanics who work there were, well, working! We had to go to the docs over in Beverly Hills, and nothing there seemed to be closed. But, getting there . . . now that was amazing — there was NO TRAFFIC! A normally 45 minute bumper-to-bumper trip took 20 minutes, same coming back. One of the patients at the doc’s office made it from Long Beach to BH in a little over half an hour. Amazing!

Take close to a million folks off the surface streets and freeways of Los Angeles and you have traffic conditions like in the late ’70s, early ’80s, which is not too bad. Not bad at all.

But, the 8-million-plus individuals in the Los Angeles basin will need those that were boycotting today to get back to work tomorrow. Fun’s over people — you made your point.

But, what point did you actually make? (db)
