Global Warming Alarmism — Enough is Enough!
I had someone that I know quite well say to me today, “We drive too much here in LA, it’s causing all that global warming!”
Please! But, how could I get really angry with her, ’cause it was only a reaction to all the media hype that we’ve been subjected to over the last few months, culminating in our Govenator’s idiotic statements of yesterday: (read it aloud with a fakey Austrian accent!)
“The science is in,” the actor-turned-politician claimed. “The facts are there that we have created, man has, a self-inflicted wound that man has created through global warming.”
As to the government’s role in combating global warming, Schwarzenegger continued, “I think that the federal government is doing things. But I think that they are not aggressive enough. And I think that the whole world is not aggressive enough.”
Arnie baby, I voted for ya, but if you keep opening your yap and this kind of stuff keeps pouring out, then in November . . .
Laer at Cheat Seeking Missiles posts in its entirety a rebuttle by Professor Bob Carter of the Marine Geophysical Laboratory at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia to the global warming hysterics in a letter to The Independent, one of England’s major pro-environmetalist rags. Here’s an excerpt:
Measurements from ground-based thermometers and independently from satellite and weather balloon sensors all agree (i) that a minor warming trend of a few tenths of a degree occurred during the last two decades of the 20th century, and (ii) that that trend has now flattened out. The warming occurred at a rate which is not known accurately but lies between 1 and 2 degrees C /century. Such rates fall comfortably within the multi-decadal warming and cooling rates of up to 3 degrees/century that occur commonly in the recent geological past. Ice core data from Greenland, and other geological data, show also that the magnitude of the late 20th century warming peak has been nearly matched or exceeded many times during climatic cycling in both the recent and deep geological past. Thus neither the rate nor the magnitude of late 20th century warming can yet be shown to be in any way unusual.
You are correct in identifying a huge problem with “climate change”, but the problem is political, not environmental or scientific.
So, why do so many scientists profess a belief in something that they can’t prove exists? Is it that they have faith in their science, and are hell-bent on finding the data to prove it? Sound more like a religion than science to me.
Actually, it’s all about the bucks! Radical environmentalists control the money stream right now, and to be out there against the status quo means grant refusals, and other means of drying up a global-warming-denying researcher’s revenue stream. As those in charge might say, “Can’t be funding heretics, now can we?” It’s not about the science, it’s all about the $$$! (db)
