Answer this one: Is there anything wrong with a newspaper columnist writing articles, blogging about them, and then under more than one pseudonym commenting on the very same posts, even to defending against negative commentators of and praising of said posts?

Duhhh! Patterico busts Los Angeles Times’ Michael Hiltzik for doing just that — hiding via the names Mikekoshi and Nofanofcablecos. Don’t miss the sumo connection, the sharing of IP addresses among these three guys, and the biting wit (not) of the Hiltzik-Mikekoshi-Nofanofcablecos writings.

Check this out and try not to laugh yourself into a coma the next time you run across a Hiltzik byline.

Good job, Patterico! (db)

[Update]

Hugh is doing some segments about this on his show today, and has plenty of links to more info and others that are calling out Hiltzik!

[Update #2]

The LA Times has pulled Heltzik’s blog on the LA Times server and has stated the following:

Notice from the Editors

The Times has suspended Michael Hiltzik’s Golden State blog on latimes.com. Hiltzik admitted Thursday that he posted items on the paper’s website, and on other websites, under names other than his own. That is a violation of The Times ethics policy, which requires editors and reporters to identify themselves when dealing with the public. The policy applies to both the print and online editions of the newspaper. The Times is investigating the postings.

Heh! (db)
