As Hugh Hewitt has just said on-air, it’s a Red-Letter-Day today, ’cause the Iranian Nutters have just gone Nuclear, and it ain’t yellowcake — it’s the Real Deal — (uranium hexafluoride, or UF6) Enriched Uranium Gas! The AP quotes Ahmadinejad:

“At this historic moment, with the blessings of God Almighty and the efforts made by our scientists, I declare here that the laboratory-scale nuclear fuel cycle has been completed and young scientists produced enriched uranium needed to the degree for nuclear power plants Sunday,” Ahmadinejad said.

“I formally declare that Iran has joined the club of nuclear countries,” he said. The crowd broke into cheers of “Allahu akbar,” or “God is great.”

As part of the ceremony, costumed dancers performed on the stage, holding aloft vials of raw uranium and also chanting “Allahu akbar.”

Ahmadinejad said the West “has to respect Iran’s right for nuclear energy.”

Alexandra von Maltzan over at All Things Beautiful writes about the perils of a nuclear Iran often, and today she states:

As I have said before we are Out Of Time. It has become increasingly obvious that when (not if) Thug-In-Chief Ahmadinejad fails to comply with United Nations demands to freeze their uranium enrichment program, a strike will indeed become necessary, and assessing the consequences of such an action becomes imperative. Now mid way through the 30 day period the UN has given Iran to cease all work toward enrichment, we get this announcement. It’s pretty much obviously too late for diplomatic efforts or sanctions for that matter.

This is an absolute mess. We have a crazed President of a country who is hell-bent on hastening the Apocalypse, to bring about the 12th Imam, to be known as the Mahdi, finalizing Islam’s conquest of the whole world.

And he is now not all that far away from having functional nuclear weapons!
