Rally for Abdul Rahman

Michelle Malkin is publicizing a rally to be held in front of the Afghan Embassy this coming Friday in D.C. in support of Abdul Rahman, the Christain convert on trial in Afghanistan for the capital crime of leaving Islam for another religion.

Please join us if you can (and if you can’t, why not organize an event/prayer service/etc. in your own neighborhood?):

Friday March 24
Noon to 1pm
Outside the Afghan Embassy
2341 Wyoming Ave NW.
Washington DC

Michelle is also less than enthused over “President Bush’s tepid statement” that he made today on Rahman’s plight.

But, what do the local religion of peace practitioners and his own family have to say about good ol’ Abdul? The Chicago Tribune gives us some insight into that particular dark hole.

“We will cut him into little pieces,” said Hosnia Wafayosofi, who works at the jail, as she made a cutting motion with her hands. “There’s no need to see him.”
(…)
“We are Muslim, our fathers were Muslim, our grandfathers were Muslim,” said Abdul Manan, Rahman’s father, who is 75. “This is an Islamic country. Imagine if your son told a police commander, also a Muslim, that he is a Christian. How would this affect you? It’s very difficult for us.
(…)
“He is my son,” said Manan, crying. “But if a son does not care about the dignity of his family, the dignity of his father, God can take him away. You cannot make anything out of such a son. He is useless.
(…)
He is known as a microbe in society, and he should be cut off and removed from the rest of Muslim society and should be killed,” [prosecutor] Wasi told the court.
(…)
“If he doesn’t regret his conversion, the punishment will be enforced on him,” the judge said. “And the punishment is death.”

My SCBA blogging compatriot, Laer Pierce, suggests writing to the Afghan Ambassador at this address:

Ambassador Said T. Jawad
Embassy of Afghanistan
2341 Wyoming Avenue, NW
Washington DC 20008

Laer also notes that Rahman might have an out with the court — being declared insane.

All this may just be enough to save the life of Afghani Christian Abdul Rahman from a death sentence for converting from Islam.

“We think he could be mad. He is not a normal person. He doesn’t talk like a normal person,” prosecutor Sarinwal Zamari told The Associated Press. Of course he doesn’t!
(…)
It’s a lousy way out of course. Rahman simply should be free to practice his religion, but Islam is too afraid of its own inherent weaknesses to allow that.

Pray for Abdul, and write to the Afghan ambassasor. Also, keep on top of this one. One interesting item, the Danes don’t play on matters like this. From Agora [h/t: Michelle, again]

Danish Politicians back Rahman to the hilt

Danish politicians have shown a remarkable amount of backbone in the case of Abdul Rahman who is on trial in Afghanistan for having converted from Islam to Christianity. Naser Khader of the Social Liberals and Søren Espersen of the Danish People’s Party suggest military action to free Abdul Rahman may be in order.

Foreign Minister Per Stig Møller, Conservatives, Berlingske, March 22:

“We are working full steam to shed some light on this case, a case which we find very serious. No formal indictment has been filed yet. Our representatives to Afghanistan are examining the matter together with the EU and the UN and the accused has also been contacted by international agencies.”
[…]
“This in no way corresponds with Afghanistan’s constitution which says tthat the Afghans have Freedom of Religion.”

Spokesman on Foreign Issues, Naser Khader, Social Liberals, Jyllands-Posten, March 21:

The government must act on this matter and show that Denmark is at the forefront in the fight for Human Rights and international rule of law. That is why we are in Afghanistan. If necessary, the Danish forces in country must liberate Abdul Rahman and offer him asylum in Denmark. This case underlines the need for Sharia law to be fought wherever it is found.”

Spokesman on Foreign Issues, Søren Espersen, Danish People’s Party, Jyllands-Posten, March 21:

“I don’t give a damn what laws they think they have. We are sort of an authority in Afghanistan and the President must prevent an execution, or we’ll give it to him good. If the Americans, the British and the Danes weren’t there, President Hamid Karzai would be butcher’s meat in the roadside before long. He knows the stakes and he better do what the Allies say in this matter.”

Spokesman on Foreign Issues, Søren Espersen, Danish People’s Party, Politiken, March 21:
“It’s time for Denmark, the United States and Great Britain to apply the thumbs screws to the Afghan government. We are the ones calling the shots in that country and this case displays a complete disregard for all decency – to execute a man for converting. We just will not accept that and we’re gonna tell the Afghan government that”

Spokesman on Foreign Issues, Mogens Lykketoft, Social Liberals, Politiken, March 21:
“[this case must] lead to some very, very direct reactions from all countries who are aiding Afghanistan”

Now, if that doesn’t make W’s mealy-mouthed statement of this AM look lame —

I’m troubled when I hear, deeply troubled when I hear, the fact that a person who has converted away from Islam may be held to account. (…)

Come on, George — there’s lot’s better than that in ya! Those practitioners of the religion of peace want to “cut him into little pieces”, and time is short. Would be interesting to see what a SEAL team could do to that facility where he is being held — but that’s just the stuff of techno-military fiction (sigh). Looks like the best we can hope for is an insanity verdict. Wonder what they do to their mentally ill in Afghanistan? Hope it’s better’n what they probably do to them in North Korea! (db)
