Cuba — Potentially the “New Hong Kong of the Carribean”

One of my readers, and frequent comment writers had the following to say about the points raised by Leftside, a Castro apologist, in a comment to my post On Cuba — Terrorist State or Paradise — What Do These Pics Tell You?

The post by Leftside had to be addressed. It was so much dribble that it, adroitly, misses the biggest negatives about living in today’s Cuba: NO Freedom-NO Liberty. Nada, amigo. Cuba is a country that does not allow you any of the basic liberties that Leftside enjoys here in the US. You cannot criticize Castro, or the government; there is no freedom of speech or the Press. Castro’s informers and undercover police are everywhere watching and ready to arrest you if you deviate from the restrictive system. Cubans do not have the freedom of movement. You can’t leave Cuba unless you qualify under Castro’s corrupt government of payoffs. Just try to leave. Get a boat (after building it out of almost anything that will float) launch it and see what happens. You’re tracked down at sea, arrested and returned to the island prison you were trying to leave. And when you returned, you are ostracized from the population making it much more difficult to survive. Is this Freedom? Is this Cuba La Bonita? This is the Cuba that Leftside’s apology fails to discuss. Is this what the revolution has brought? Yes. Complete Restriction of movement, thought, word, action, etc. Even in Batista’s corrupt pre-Castro government, freedom of movement was never restricted.

How many people has Castro murdered under the pretense of ”treason or threat to the state” or just someone who spoke out, or disagreed with Castro? If Leftside had any idea of the current situation he/she would be aware of the lack of food and medicine on the island. The bread lines, food lines and long lines for medical care. But, while the Cubans suffer, a select few including Castro prosper. How many millions if not billions has Castro and his cronies sequestered in foreign accounts, while the Cuban people suffer? Hundreds of millions if not billions. Castro has been in power for 50 years. It’s time to get his ass out and rebuild this beautiful island. Cuba could be the new “Hong Kong” of the Caribbean and it’s just 90 miles off our shores.
