What Would Allah Drive?

The biggest-baddest-SUV he could find? Probably not, but at least one recently graduated UNC-Chappel Hill alum decided that this would be his own choice of vehicle to avenge the mistreatment of Muslims around the globe. Mohammed Reza Taheriazar, or as Michelle Malkin refers to him, The Jihadist In North Carolina, is the UNC graduate, and to DaimlerChrysler’s chagrin, a Jeep Cherokee was his SUV of choice. It’s lucky for the nine victims, (six hospitalized), that this Cherokee is not all that big, or bad — could have been a ‘Sclade, Excursion or an Armada! Yipes! From the ABC Raleigh/Durham website:

The driver of an SUV that plowed into a group of pedestrians at UNC-Chapel Hill on Friday told police it was retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world, sources tell Eyewitness News and ABC News.
(…)
Police say they arrested the suspect, Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22, of Chapel Hill, shortly after the incident. He reportedly called police shortly after the incident and surrendered a few miles from campus.

Police said they would charge Taheri-azar with nine counts of attempted murder.
(…)
Sources tell Eyewitness News and ABC News that Taheri-azar was intent on killing people Friday.

“One official said the officials and students on campus were lucky today,” Thomas said. “Because if he had done what he wanted to do, you’d probably have some dead people on your campus.”

The campus Muslim Students Association, that had previously demonstrated against the campus paper, The Daily Tar Heel, for printing one of the original Mohammed cartoons — the flash point for Muslim violence around the globe for over a month — did denounce Reza Taheri-azar’s actions on their website by stating the following.

“Regardless of what his intentions prove to be, we wholeheartedly deplore this action, and trust that our fellow classmates will be able to dissociate the actions of this one disturbed individual from the beliefs of the Muslim community as a whole,” the statement said. “Peace be upon you all.”

I hope so — guess we’ll see.

See Michell’e post for more. At least all six of the hospitalized victims have been released and the FBI has joined in the investigation — although when you consider how they handeled the Joel Hinrichs suicide bombing just outside the Oklahoma University stadium last October, makes you wonder what good they’re gonna do. The Endless Pattern of Illogic

What I find so puzzling about this outrage by Reza and virtually all the other Islamic terrorist actions is the complete lack of logic. We can start with the WTC towers: what did they think that attack would accomplish? Did Reza think driving over 7 randomly selected innocent people would change someone who had disrespect for Islam or muslims? So much of the incredible violence we see in Iraq (by all sides) doesn’t seem to be causally related to any end. Am I missing something here?

    Gussie,
This is basically a “Religious” war first, and a Cultural war second. Religion is faith based. In my opinion, logic generally doesn’t apply to questions of Religion (with apologies to Aquinas, Descartes, etc.). The only sense will come with a “reformation” of the Islamic religion similar to what happened to Catholicism in the 16th century. Unfortunately, I don’t see any Lutheran-type leaders among the “moderate” Muslims.
