The Left’s Manifesto — Let’s Just Kill Ourselves to Death!

Every once in a while, far too often actually, some Lefty comes out in print with a virtual autopsy of the Leftist mindset. Today’s examination is provided by Meghan Daum’s Op-Ed piece, Crowding out a right to choose, which the online edition link to with, “Need people? Here, take some of ours”. Quite revealing, if you can stomach reading through it all. I’ve got lots o’ antacid, so let’s go. [All italic/bold areas emphasized by me.]

BAD NEWS supposedly comes in threes, so it’s no surprise that last week saw a trifecta in the race to breed ourselves into oblivion.

Hasn’t it been about 30 years or so since the Left was constantly bleating about Zero Population Growth? Doesn’t Western Europe have its collective tit caught in a wringer because it bought into this nonsense and slid into a severe population decline of actual Europeans? Maybe Meghan has this all figured out — yeah, that must be it.

Still, the timing is uncanny. Although there are clearly too many of us, our government seems to think we should reproduce even when we don’t want to. (…) The concept of family planning, particularly as it applies to the developing world, has replaced the more sinister-sounding population control. Even the lobbying group Zero Population Growth changed its name four years ago to Population Connection. (…) But the connection we can’t seem to make is the glaring correlation between consumerism and fertility, even though we worship and feel entitled to both.

“[C]learly too many of us”, I don’t know about that Ms. Daum. Especially with you Lefties wantin’ all that planning, and control and ever increasing entitlements — whose coming up behind us to pay for all that stuff? And what kind of economy is not just the US, but the world gonna run on if there’s no consumption?

Like a lot of people, I tend to get enraged when I see demonstrators holding up pictures of dismembered, late-term fetuses and sanctimoniously reminding women that their babies aren’t just material objects. For one thing, it’s misrepresentative (the vast majority of abortions occur within the first 12 weeks of gestation, when the fetus is no more than a few inches long).

Oh, I see. Once again, it’s all about ABORTION! “I tend to get enraged” too when I see “pictures of dismembered, late-term fetuses”, or any term dismembered fetuses for that matter. I guess for you, if “the fetus is no more than a few inches long”, then pictures of very tiny dismembered hands, heads, arms and legs don’t bother you much, if at all. How progressive of you, baby. I can call you “baby”, right? No? Didn’t think so.

And it is here, at the crossroads of child worship and superstore worship, that we form many of our ideas about who should be reproducing. Although no one says it out loud, surely the reason most middle-class people in this country don’t feel accountable for our ballooning population is that we believe we’re duty bound to replace our elite, red-blooded, all-American selves.

No shit, Sherlock! Our good Ms. Daum finally says something coherent and they thinks it a slam instead.

Obviously abortion is not a solution to the domestic or global population crisis, [Thanks Meghan, for that at least] and obviously plenty of parents view family life as something more than an accessory for their McMansions. But the materialism and status anxiety that the mainstream culture increasingly associates with parenting (…) suggests that life might be easier all around if there weren’t quite so many of us.

Let’s Have A War, There’s so many of us,
must be on Meghan’s iPod.

However, despite those reduced birthrates, roughly 10 billion people around the world die of hunger every year, and millions of Americans lack affordable healthcare. Maybe these are issues we’d hear more about if not for the competing noise from the abortion war.

According to the Lefties’ manifesto, we’re not supposed to nation build, or depose tyrants, or interfere in other cultures(like all cultures are cool, man), so how are we supposed to help out the, what is it Ms. Daum, “10 billion people” dying of hunger each year. Wait a minute, aren’t there only 5 billion or so of us on this planet we call Earth? Hey LA Times — anybody editing over there? And then there’s health care. I’d bet a whole bunch that she leans toward Hilliary care, or something very similar. Anyone care to take that action?

By the way, since last Saturday we’ve added another 5 million people to the planet. But don’t worry. Apparently there’s plenty of room in South Dakota.

Oh, you betcha! And there’ll be even more in S.D. now that they won’t be killing so many of their unborn youngins. And that, Meghan Daum, is PROGRESS! (db)
