Just to give you a taste of Lefty weirdness, here are some of the comments on the Kos site this AM concerning Law Professor Sandy Levinson’s musings on the upcoming Alito nomination hearings.

WHY NO OUTRAGE? (4.00 / 2)

why is there absolutely no move by congress to postpone the Alito confirmation hearings?????

maybe I am nuts BUT does anyone really think a man who may well be about to face Impeachment gets to have another pick confirmed to the USSC?

Impeachment hearings FIRST….scalito hearings should wait.

“if all the world’s a stage, who is sitting in the audience?”

Oh Yeah, there’s that “I” word that they are all orgasmic over right now. But what do they really think of our Pres?

what one forgets…. (none / 0)

…is that it just hasn’t stopped at wiretapping. Under the powers that King G thinks he has, he could do the following:

1. wiretap someone’s communication–a political opponent, for example, since FISA is not there to deny him

2. he then can declare that person an enemy combatant, planning to blow up (fill in anything, really) with (fill in anything, including Play-do).

3. that person is now shipped to Gitmo or “Europe”, without any legal means to clear themselves, thanks to the Graham/Levin bill, and the very nature of EC status

4. King G can now repeat as necessary. Pray tell, how is this NOT a dictatorship?

We were promised a democracy, sold an oligarchy, and ended up with a kakistocracy…

King George, get it? Same as the King of England during the War for Indep . . . oh forget it! We all know that the Left hates Justice Clarence Thomas and considers him a race defector, but a fascist supporter in black garb?

Time to junk “Scalito” and maybe adopt “Thomalito”? Although even that trivializes the danger from Alito, because Thomas’ individual thinking is so anti-constitutional that he convinces no one else on the Court, whereas Alito’s greatest threat is his capacity to dress up fascist policies in the deceitful garb of unthreatening language.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Indeed. These guys are scared of their own shadows, no doubt. Oh, and somebody has read 1984 in college — do tell.

the trouble with ‘emergencies’ … (none / 0)

…that give a ruler unlimited power is that they tend to be self-perpetuating. so don’t look for green on the terrorist threat level anytime soon. oceania has always been at war with eurasia.

Now, isn’t that clever? Love his capitalization, too. Oh, and what about the constant bleating of “Bushhitler” from the swamp? We wouldn’t want to be disappointed . . .

,,Der Führer schützt das Recht” (none / 1)

The unitary executive theories of the Bushies are so similar to the legal theories of people like Carl Schmitt (who defended the 1934 Röhm Blood Putsch as an exercise of higher law) and Werner Best (the legal theoretician of the nascent Gestapo) that one has got to wonder whether the imitation is knowing and conscious.

Oh yeah, I’m sure the Pres puts on a little fake mustache and lederhosen and goosesteps around the residence while Laura snaps her little black whip. What a bunch of whackos! One of them has it boiled down to two questions.

It’s simple, really (none / 1)

I realize that it’s easier on their short stack of attenuated brain cells to separate their comments into bits and bites and semantical pigeon-holes, but the cable babblers who insist on talking about Alito one issue at a time miss the larger and vastly more important picture: It’s about privacy and the survival of the Constitution and always was.

Two questions emerge, then:

How much privacy may we as Americans expect to retain in this post-2001 world, where irrational fear, soul-deadening hatred and barely concealed bigotry rule the day?

Will we treat the Constitution as a dotty old relic of a grandmother and merely humor it or will we truly embrace it as a living, breathing embodiment of our deepest civic aspirations?

How we deal with those two questions will determine what kind of America we’ll leave to future generations.

“[W]here irrational fear, soul-deadening hatred and barely concealed bigotry rule the day?” Goodness, he doesn’t even realize that he’s talking about his own Democratic party! But, someone just has to insert the “War for Oil” argument into every discussion on the Left? Guess so . . .

amputation of parts of the Constitution? (none / 0)

That doesn’t meet the standard of major organ failure or death, so I’m figuring it must be okay, right?

Seriously, though, what a reprehensible position to take.

Let’s get serious about renewables and efficiency. It’s time to Win the Oil Endgame.

How about paranoia run amok? It isn’t a pretty sight!

I was concerned by any bush choice (4.00 / 2)

even before recent disclosures regarding NSA. It was the way bush kept bringing up the use of the military here. After Katrina, as the only answer to the avian flu in his first mention of it and a few other times. He kept saying the congress needed to consider granting that power so he could protect us.

He really wanted it. It scared me. If it wasn’t given, would he just take it? (Yes) Who would stop him?

I don’t think bush cares about abortion either way. He cares about his powers. If bush wants someone in now they have to be stopped. Seems that simple.

And that was before this revelation of widespread abuse. I am surprised to hear the investigation would start after SCOTUS nominee hearings. Isn’t that in reverse order? If he has been breaking the law as it appears, hasn’t he lost the right to choose who interprets the law for our country?

And where does USAPATRIOT act extension fit in to this schedule since it now expires in a month?

SCOTUS should be 3rd priority and then he should be rejected. No 4th, I forgot about impeachment.

No mention of Chimpy . . . uh oh, spoke too soon.

Wow (none / 0)

Where does this professor teach? Sign me up.

Sometimes it is necessary to fling shit back at the monkeys.

Paranoia run amok, part two:

The Disappeared (none / 0)

He forgot the power where Bush can disappear anyone, anywhere anytime without charge or judicial review.

“Be just and good.” John Adams

Shoot, all the Lefties in West LA have disappeared . . . that’s a good one. What sugar cubes have these guys been sucking on? I think I’ve had enough dumpster diving for today. Time for that hot shower and some reading of content with merit. (db)
