Katie Couric Anchoring CBS News? — Oh Right, Like That Will Really Help

From the LATimes online:

NBC’s “Today” show co-anchor Katie Couric is being actively wooed by CBS to be its next evening news anchor — a move she is seriously considering, according to sources at both networks.

In recent weeks, CBS News President Sean McManus has been doggedly courting Couric to switch networks and assume the anchor seat of the “CBS Evening News,” according to three senior editorial employees at CBS and NBC.

Poor ol’ CBS. They may have a great gig goin’ with all the CSI clones, but their news division is still reeling from the Rathergate scandal and the weak investigation thereof. Replacing a worn-out disgraced lefty with a popular NBC fever-swamp denizen is not going to give them any better legitimacy — ‘course it might pirate some viewers from NBC.

Now if they had gone after Brit Hume, it would be another story! (db)

[Update]

The Anchoress is thinking similar thoughts and even has a suggestion to Moonves as to who would be a great hire.

(…) Moonves smartest move, and cost-effective one, too, would be to bring in a relative unknown who is bright, congenial, camera-friendly and who can actually write her own copy. And I have a suggestion for him, too – and if he’s smart he’ll consider it: Hire CNN’s DELIA GALLAGHER.

Hmmmmm, very interesting . . . (db)
