An LA Times “Love Letter” to Islam
In her National Review Online article, Bat Yeor writes the following:
The dhimmi mentality cannot be easily defined and described. An endless variety of reactions has been provoked by the evolving historical situations in the civilization of dhimmitude, which spans three continents and close to fourteen centuries. Generally speaking, dhimmi populations can be described as oscillating between alienation and submission and, at the other extreme, a self-perception of spiritual freedom.
The basic aspects of the dhimmi mentality are related to characteristics of its status and environment, because dhimmitude operates exclusively within the sphere of jihad. Contrary to common belief, jihad is not limited to holy war conducted militarily; it encompasses all strategies, including peaceful means, aimed at the unification of all religions within Islamic dogma. [emph mine]
Keeping that last sentence in mind, go over to today’s Los Angeles Times article by Jeffrey Fleishman which I can describe only as a love letter to the teaching of the religion of Islam in schools — in this particular case, schools in Germany.
“We need poets, doctors and a middle class that German Muslims can aspire to,” said Bagrac, a 28-year-old university student with a wide face and sideburns. “Germans have come to see Islam as a religion of the working class. But Islam is a religion of all classes. That’s why it’s so important to get more Muslim teachers into schools.”
Bagrac is a missionary of sorts in this nation of 3 million Muslims — nearly 4% of the population. He and about a dozen other students at the University of Muenster are enrolled in the first course of its kind in Germany: a curriculum preparing Muslim instructors to teach Islam in public schools while being sensitive to Western culture.
Such ambitions have arisen against the backdrop of a troubling arc of violence, from the Sept. 11 attacks to last year’s train bombings in Madrid to this summer’s assaults on London’s transit system. The Islamic extremists’ war against Europe is widening, and conservative and liberal politicians across the continent are perplexed about how to better integrate a Muslim community that has doubled since the 1980s but remains in a largely parallel universe.
If their intent was actually to “better integrate a Muslim community” into western European civilization and culture, this might be a good thing. But that comment from Bat Yeor bears repeating:
Contrary to common belief, jihad is not limited to holy war conducted militarily; it encompasses all strategies, including peaceful means, aimed at the unification of all religions within Islamic dogma.
Fleishman’s article continues:
This is a continent where Christmas, Hanukkah and Ramadan coexist, and national constitutions eloquently uphold human rights. But the rising militancy among young Muslims has challenged those constitutions and cast a shadow on the meaning of being European.
“Learning Islam in school will finally give Muslim children the feeling of being home,” Bagrac said of his course, which awaits final state approval and may start graduating prospective teachers within three years.
“That’s something we wanted for so long, to feel at home in this country. If Muslim kids feel accepted by public schools, the schools will become synonymous with the state and it will improve cultural coexistence.”
Let’s break this down. “This is a continent where Christmas, Hanukkah and Ramadan coexist, and national constitutions eloquently uphold human rights.” Sounds like a great place to be, not at all like the Islamic states in the Middle East from which many of the European Muslims have fled. So, why don’t they feel “at home” in their new country? Maybe because they haven’t made any efforts to embrace European culture? Maybe because Europeans distrust them for that very reason?
“That’s something we wanted for so long, to feel at home in this country.” Now, really — is that a disingenuous statement, or what? What’s this really all about, Alfi, er – ah, Bagrac? “If Muslim kids feel accepted by public schools, the schools will become synonymous with the state and it will improve cultural coexistence.” There’s a mouthful for ya. So in Germany, the public schools will have to teach a religion, Islam, in order for Muslim students to feel accepted. So then, these schools that are teaching the religion of Islam “will become synonymous with the state”. Hello! Fleishman — you see anything happening here that might cause those of us that like living in a modern western society a bit of legitimate concern? No? He continues:
“If a Muslim lives in a Western society, he has to stick to the laws of Western society. He can’t say he wants an Islamic state,” said Zaher, 25, whose parents are Palestinians who emigrated here from Lebanon in 1970. “We were not influenced in fundamentalist directions. Islam can coexist with democracy. It comes down to tolerance.”
There’s that “t” word again, tolerance. In modern progressive thought, it means complete acceptance of, not merely to tolerate. But Zaher, living in a Western society does mean sticking to the laws of that society, and Western democracies are not compatible with Sharia, or Islamic law. Now Fleishman, why didn’t you bring any of this up in your piece? ‘Cause it’s definitely a Column One puff-piece, not hard news. Maybe later in the piece? Not a chance!
For Bagrac, the way to this future is with textbook and chalkboard. “A religion teacher can be a contact for Muslim children and the state,” he said. “We can be a connecting link because teachers can be trusted by both sides . . .
Maybe I’m not all that trusting, ’cause I’m sure not buyin’ it! So, according to the Los Angeles Times it is perfectly natural and a groovy thing for Islam to be officially taught as curriculum in German public schools. What about in U.S. public schools? Nothing is said either way on that. But, in California, that has already been going on for awhile. So, back to the words of Bat Yeor to wrap this all up for now:
The contribution of dhimmi Christian collaborationism to Islam is even more important. It satisfies three objectives: 1) its propaganda shores up the mythology of past and present peaceful Islamic-Christian coexistence and confirms the perfection of Islam, jihad, and sharia; 2) it promotes the demographic expansion and proselytism of Islamic propaganda in the West; 3) in the theological sphere it eliminates the Jewish Jesus and implants Christianity in the Muslim Jesus, in other words it facilitates the theological Islamization of all Christendom.
According to Islamic dogma, Islam encompasses Judaism and Christianity, both of which are falsified posterior expressions of the first and fundamental religion, which is Islam. All the characters of the Bible, from Adam to Abraham, Moses to David, the Hebrew prophets, Mary, Jesus, and the apostles, were Muslim prophets who preached Islam, and it is only in their quality as Muslims that they are recognized and respected. They belong to the Koran, not to the Bible. From this viewpoint the bond between Judaism and Christianity is a falsification, because the filiation of Christianity is Islamic, not Judaic. Christianity descends from Islam, the first religion of all humanity (din al-fitra). Christianity is a falsified expression of Islam, and belongs to Islam. According to a hadith, when Isa, the Muslim Jesus, returns, he will break the cross, kill the pig, abolish the jizya (poll tax for infidels), and money will flow like water. Exegetes interpret the destruction of symbols attached to Christianity — the cross and the pig — as the extinction of that religion; the suppression of the jizya means that Islam has become the only religion; and the abundance of wealth refers to the booty taken from infidels. In other words the return of the Muslim Jesus could lead to the destruction of Christianity.
The global jihad has made the problems of dhimmitude a worldwide reality. Europe’s creeping dhimmitude, expressed in a refusal even to mention in its proposed constitution the “Judeo-Christian” values of its civilization, is one of the major elements of the current European-American divide. [emph mine]
That’s what our good Jeffrey Fleishman and his employer, the LA Times, was doing today — committing dhimmi collaborationism. (db)
[Update]
I get no further than posting this piece, and a comment is written on one of my Harriet Miers’ posts that really should be highlighted here. So, commenter J. Force writes the following:
To change the subject from Miers’ nomination to a speech President Bush gave on October 6 to the National Endowment for Democracy, I’d like to make a comment about his “calling out” radical Islam and his differentiation of radical Islam from the religion of Islam.
Essentially I say: President Bush: Stop the PC Dribble and State the Facts!!
When Bush distinguishes between “Radical Islam” and the “Religion of Islam” he’s engaging in PC dribble. The fact of the matter is that all Islam is radical, no matter how it is positioned outwardly to the masses, no matter how the apologists sugar coat it for us with a veneer of “the religion of peace.” There will never be any true peace or understanding between the non-Muslims (Infidels) and Muslims until: (1) The religion of Islam changes and modernizes itself or (2) We take appropriate steps to Stop the dysfunctional diatribes and anti-West rhetoric of the Muslims or (3) the Koranic directed Dar al-Islam (House of Islam) is extended to the entire world and Islam is victorious in creating a World-Wide Caliphate–in the medieval sense. When there is a world Caliphate State (achieved by any means–politically, militarily, etc.), then, according to Islamic teachings, there will be a Dar a-Salam (House of Peace), with Muslims in control and governing a religious Caliphate State, with all the Infidels either converting to Islam, killed for non-conversion or living in a separate but not-equal ghetto existence and severely taxed for being an “Infidel.” Nothing like bringing back the memories of the good-old days of the Ottoman Empire! The faster we realize the real objective of Islam, the faster we can develop appropriate strategies to counteract it. Otherwise: Ave Mohammed, morituri te salutamus!
