The Anchoress leaves planet conservative politics and enters into the realm of mysticism and wonder.

Let’s use a building metaphor. If I am…oh, The Devil…and I have spent, oh….al LOT of time and energy putting many pieces in place in order to construct my masterpiece, and I am only awaiting the delivery of a few essential – very select – pieces, or maybe even one more piece, to finish the job, and I find there is one stubborn impediment to that installation…well…I’m just going to have to destroy the impediment. I’ll have to blow it up, or tear it down, or designate it a condemned structure…I can’t have it in my way. It must be destroyed. Ideally, if I can get it to destroy itself, I will have done just the right thing…no evidence or fingerprints, you know.

And if what needs destroying – what must destroy itself – is a political movement, or a president, or both…well…I’ve got that bag o’ tricks at the ready. And I use it…because it always works. Folks fall for the illusion time after time, after time.

I think that I like where she is better than where a lot of the conservative cognoscenti are trying to be . . . (db)
